conservatives sure would be mad about a thing they’re not actually mad about if they were invented today

I mean, I wear a seatbelt but I think mandatory seatbelt laws for anyone but children under 18 are bullshit. People should have the right to stupid, and at least the state of New Hampshire agrees with me since there is no seatbelt law for adults and motorcycle helmets aren't mandatory.

But then again, I'm not a conservative (or libertarian), so maybe there are a bunch of conservatives out there angry about seatbelts, I dunno.

I'm bittersweet on it if that's the case. It's good things are opening back up, but that just means everyone goes back to sleep to the real issues facing them.
Well, the local dead tree rag said something about how the CDC “recommended” that even vaccinated people should still do “mitigation strategies”.

As bullshit as sweeping everything under the rug is, it’s still better than the “If you want a vision of the future, Winston, it’s a mask strapped to a human face—forever” option.

There was a weird anti-seatbelt movement in the 80s but that was mostly compromised of libertarians, not conservatives, so they aren’t even the same people. It’s just retarded that libs have to pull false-equivalences out of their ass because they get red in the face over people not liking a stupid piece of cloth that barely helps that we’re constantly lectured about wearing.

If you want to be cynical: the age of the school, its endowment, and the network of individuals who go on from Williams into prestigious or powerful places in society. You could say the same thing about learning CS at MIT versus RIT. What they're paying for (theoretically) is the ability to put the name "Williams College" on their resumé. Harvard, for instance, basically all but admitted that when they didn't significantly slash tuition despite making everyone go virtual for a year and change.

That's how it is at most of the Ivy tier schools. I was friendly with a girl for a couple of years who came from SE Asia. She was chill, could hang with the guys, etc. Then another friend told me she was scared of her because it turns out her father is a general in her country that disappears people. Another friend once pointed out a Korean girl to me and said she was the scion of the branch of the family that owns Samsung, but that family was disowned for some weird internal family politics. Turns out rich kids just want to do what they want, like most normal college kids in all honesty but with the added wealth factor.

I'm just curious how their rich families will take it that the school they're paying a bunch of money to is sending their children home for having a party that hasn't resulted in any increase in covid cases.
College has become a high school supplement post collapse of much of the public school system. Kids leaving 12 years of full time eduction barely literate. Employer look on the average college degree as evidence of triple digit IQ only. This wouldn't matter except for the enormous debt kids are being asked to take on simply to prove they can read past the age of a 12 year old.

The Ivy's are a different story. Credentialism and proof that you're either really smart to get a scholarship or from the right (rich/Jewish) background to be accepted as one of the elite. We live in the most stratified time in our history with little movement between the social classes. Harvard, Yale etc are one of the many gatekeepers for the caste system.

Remember Melbourne, Australia. with its rabidly strict lockdowns and arresting pregnant women for making spicy facebook posts? Karma is a bitch

A decision on whether Daniel Andrews requires surgery for a fractured spine will be made on Wednesday as the Victorian Premier remains in intensive care in a Melbourne hospital after injuring himself in a fall.

A senior government source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Mr Andrews’ recovery “certainly won’t be quick”, with a more precise time frame dependent on the impending decision of The Alfred hospital trauma centre doctors on surgery.

Concerns over the seriousness of Mr Andrews’ condition have gradually increased since he was taken to hospital early on Tuesday after slipping on wet stairs at a holiday home in the Mornington Peninsula while getting ready for work.

He broke ribs on his left and right sides, as diagnosed on Tuesday, but has been cleared of internal injuries such as a punctured lung. The Premier has not sustained head injuries and was conscious and speaking on Wednesday, the government source said.

Looks like Newsom is starting to feel the heat of the upcoming recall election. Good. Fuck that bastard, recall him. 🖕

Let's hope then his successor won't act like the old boss and if California menage to get a Republican back as governor then it won't be a RINO.

Indeed, let's see if corona-chan will paid a visit.

I've always said that laws that mandate safety are wrong and a gateway drug / slippery slope to all kinds of bullshit overreach by the government (spoiler I was right).

You can hold people responsible for their actions with the existing laws without criminalizing *behaviors*. But I'm hardly the voice of conservatism, more like an angry middle of the road sometimes lolbertarian that is fed up with all the bullshit and hates everyone/thing.

Fuck masks, and the greasy leftards that don't wash their hands after the bathroom and smugly adjust them 50x a day without washing them for weeks. Gee I wonder why respiratory infections are on the rise, must be the covid from those ebil anti-maskers! <all my eyerolls combined>

Everyone looks at me like I'm insane when I say the main motivation for keeping Covid restrictions isn't safety but the unprecedented 700%+ rise in pharmaceutical profits.
Last time I saw my sister told her this and that the case and death numbers are being inflated to keep people in lockdown, got the 'oh that's just a conspiracy theory' treatment. Fucking sucks having to deal with brainwashed loved ones.
