Thunderf00t / Phil Mason - Single manbaby, angry atheist/anti-feminist Youtuber, attention whore

Thunderfoot is one of those people where even though he's an idiot and an "I Fucking Love Science" dweeb, he's much much better than everyone he slapfights with. Somehow he finds the absolute weirdest people on youtube to beef with.
It's not all that difficult to be better than some creationist moron, a new-ager, or some dumb legbeard who thinks sexy women in videogames create rapists. What perplexes me is why he seeks these people out, the creationists make sense for him to get angry about and debunk, he's a scientist and likely sees red whenever someone talks about Noah's Ark as a real thing that actually literally existed precisely as the bible described it. Same for the New Age types, various sorts of Pseudo Science pushing frauds and other miscellaneous weirdos that intrude on his area of expertise.

His participation in the teh greeat vidya gaem culture war seems odd to me though, Thunderfoot is a functional adult with a reasonably important job and likely doesn't have enough spare time on his hands to both play video games and also mock the people who hate, say, titty armor for example.

ThunderF00t proves Feynman right here, more than just about anyone else could hope to.

IIRC 'Thunderf00t' is the nickname he originally used for online FPS games like Tribes. So he was into video games at some point.

Edit: Oh, and a lot of his anti-SJW attitude stems from the Atheism+ stuff rather than GamerGate.

It's not perplexing at all. TF is a serial puncher-down. I don't think he has ever taken on somebody who can engage with him as an equal. He deliberately seeks out the dumbest people to target and laugh at. He's not only a coward, he's completely insecure and obnoxious. He plays the 'not touching you!' game like a seasoned master, poking and jabbing at people until they lash out, then immediately taking the high ground. When somebody he doesn't like fails or messes up in some way, he gleefully dogpiles on them and kicks as hard and as often as he can.

Basically, he's an absolute soyboy and in every way a mirror of the people he mocks, just with enough intelligence to pick and choose his battles a bit better than normal.

And if I recall correctly about 2 years ago there was a bit of a controversy as he was found to be taking stuff entirely out of context, then arguing against points the subjects didn't make.

I think the last part is the most important one. He doesn't attack any of the powerhouse non-mainstream scientists out there who have the intellectual and academic chops to dunk on him.

Other Thunderfoot imitators like Professor Dave pick fights with everyone who disagrees with the current scientific paradigm and regularly end up twisted into pretzels when their more legitimate opponents cite a litany of Nature articles that refute the highschool-level chemistry and physics takes they have. TF's particular grift is only attacking the lowest hanging fruit so he can never be hit back.

I only recently found Professor Dave while looking into flat earth bs (I finally met one IRL) and I got the feeling that he did the same sort of thing that Thunderfoot does: removes context to make the other look stupid.

I liked the Busted series, but when I went to watch the creationists series, I couldn’t help but notice how he would either ignore the context of what was being said or remove it entirely. It really soured my opinion of him. I’m no Young Earth creationist, but if you’re going to debate someone, intellectual honesty is required (an understanding of Christian doctrine, in the case of the creationists series, would’ve been helpful as well).

Why does Thunderf00t have such a hate boner for Trump anyway? And why the hell is this so called science minded "man of logic and reason" siding with those that believe in Critical Race Theory and Transgenderism?
I wanna say "hes buying into the whole 'trump hates climate change' crap that occurred when he axed some obama-era legislation, to which bernie did an ultra-stretch by claiming trump has a climate change denial agenda"
its basically the standpoint of most of the cookie cutter atheist channels(the ones who make 10 videos about [insert creationist channel here] and how "atrocious" it is that said channels are gaining an audience but I digress) when it comes to politics, and the main trojan horse of how they inadvertently and unknowingly start taking in libtardic political views, which would inevitably lead to the dickswinging of said political views(regardless of what alignment they have), complete with the "anyone who disagrees even a little bit is a subhuman" drivel.
The only edge that tf00t has over all the others, in my opinion, is his voice isnt as grating to the ears, oh and his face isnt as punchable.

How to make a Thunderf00t video:
Take some topic that has content for maybe a 5 minute video, stretch it to 25 minutes by repeating every single point at least 3 times, and fill the remaining time with dead memes from 2007 and yelling "HOW CAN ANYONE BE THIS STUPID!?!?!?!?!" and such. Oh, i almost forgot the most important ingredient: Arrogant, smug and self congratulatory attitude of an 18th century French aristocrat.

Uh... I don't think it's normal to refer to yourself as an orphan if your parents took until you hit middle age to die.

Just sayin. I mean, yeah, this could just be a little gallows humor, but then you hit the comments and see shite like this:

I had a similar thought at first, after watching through the whole video, it felt like he was going for a bit of levity after spending ~20 minutes describing his mother's decline to dementia. Can't remember a specific instance of it but I feel like he's used it as a joke before, years ago, though that wouldn't be too shocking considering he reuses jokes more often than the average Portlander reuses needles.

“Becoming an orphan at 49” is a bit over the top, agreed. But being an oldie and having recently lost my parents, who were both amazing, I can’t help but have some ❤️.

He’s still a spastic wanker who needs to GTFO the internet, focus on his research and perhaps pick up gardening, but my heart goes out to him. It’s not too late, Phil! Leave YouTube and go find a good woman!

Thunderf00t getting singled out, rip.

And actual orphans generally stop calling themselves orphans when they become adults. Normally, "I was an orphan" is how one would talk about their childhood.
