American shows that are internationally licensed to air in places like Japan & SEA that garner its own local followings in those places do so not necessarily because they're the best but mostly because the locals just don't know any better.Seriously though, while I agree anyone who has watched more than 3 hours of diverse American entertainment would know how childish that show is. . . and given my younger sisters. . . I lived through it. Drake and Josh was dope though; Fight Me.
Lots of these places only get a certain number of American shows on network TV in these places where cable isn't as prevalent and is mostly a privilege only those in the upper tiers of income-earners are able to afford. They're not spoiled for choice as far as American shows are concerned. It's different now with online streaming and YouTube of course, but there will always be that segment of Asian kids that grew up on a lot of these "mediocre" shows most US-based kids turn their nose up on because these were the only shows they had access to.
Same thing with licensed niche anime titles being aired in those areas. There's a sizeable number of SEA kids that know the Mojacko anime simply because it was licensed and aired as one of the only anime titles in the weekday afternoon cartoon slot that kids can watch in one of the two/three major channels in the country. It fucking sucked, but it was the only thing available, so kids watched it. Same logic for licensed American shows such as iCarly.
