Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

Can someone translate what the fuck Touhou is into non-Weeb for us normal people? I tried the wiki page and it still makes no sense.
It's an ancient bullet hell AKA "danmaku" series that's notable for having an absurdly huge, overly designed cast of characters that are basically all little girls with creative designs and terrible art set in a not-classical Japan romanticized to the point of pastiche. The abundance of imagination fodder led to the largest J scene for fanart, music, games, porn, etc. for any indie series, perhaps any J series ever and inevitably all that bled over by way of ancient usenet groups, web 1.0 fora, and later on /jp/. The fanworks and fandom as a whole have long since reached such a critical mass that there are communities within communities within communities, many of whom haven't even played any of the original games. I still remember one guy in a chat saying that he only listens to heavy metal arrangements of 2hu music and y'know what? I believe him. There's probably enough heavy metal 2hu out there to scratch his itch. The one thing that makes it objectively better and therefore more tolerable than most fandoms is that it somehow still hasn't been bought up by Disney, Nintendo, et al. and whored out to sell product to consoomers.
