BIID is basically just an analogue of AGP. And, exactly like in AGPs it is not a real, singular condition, but a product of interactions between social factors and (usually) more generally abnormal behavior.

In fact, it's actually startling how similar they are. To start with you commonly see the same pattern of other-directed sexual attraction which combines with or leads to self-directed attraction. So, in AGPs this would be jacking off to tranny porn then progressively coming to self-insert as the tranny while in BIID, it's arousal by amputees/amputation to arousal of being/becoming an amputee. This then graduates into an obsession that metastasizes into the subject's non-sexual fantasies and eventually they develop a powerful affective association with the mere concept of being a woman/amputee.

And just like in troons, this confounds researchers who recognize the obviously sexual element, but also observe that it evidently isn't purely sexual. Also, just like in troons some researchers postulate elegant "not a mental illness" brain-related etiologies, but fail to turn up any real evidence beyond some vague non-specific associations here and there. In BIID this is even more true since you don't have the confounding from HSTS's or from HRT. There is a view that it has something to do with right parietal lobe (the sensory homunculus), but the evidence is weak and what does exist is probably just a case of fMRI studies not being very reliable. My bet is that even if statistical differences in right parietal lobe grey matter (causal relevance of which would still be less than certain) is reliably replicable it's probably just because BIID patients are generally unusual for other reasons.

To really drive home just how much these are essentially the same phenomenon: BIID probably has the same comorbidity associations. Firstly, they have lots of paraphilias (pedophilia, transvestism or other fetishism):

No clear evidence of any association with obsessive-compulsive tendencies, but small literature and it can still be noted that in specific case studies patients are described as having an obsessive-compulsive relationship with amputation etc., which is basically what you see in troons as well except in connection to gender. I would bet that a thorough investigation would turn up some at least weak association.

Interestingly enough, I'm not aware of any association with autism in the literature. A PubMed search turns up no hits for any combination of BIID and autism or ASD. However, there is BIID sub-reddit (naturally) and they are apparently very autistic:

Also there is - and I'm not shitting you on this - a kind of overlap with diaper fetishism where the individual wants to be rendered incontinent e.g. by having their spinal cord severed.

In conclusion, AGP-driven troonism is of the same family of psychological disorders as BIID; two different variants of identity-based coomsumption.


I broadly agree, but I'd more strongly emphasis the influence of post-pubertal social failure. This isn't really related to over-protective parenting or anything, but rather to the underlying psychological abnormalities present in a lot of troons. Autism or at least spergy tendencies loom large here. For a lot of autists, the end of childhood proper is difficult; they struggle with forming or even understanding romantic and sexual relationships, they often get bullied for making faux pas and bullying in general increases massively at around the same time. At the same time, making friends often becomes harder and they may become more conscious of their failure in this area. Further to this, the transition to secondary school denies them the ability to bond with younger kids which in my experience seems to be a very common coping mechanism for autists who struggle to make friends.

All of these factors, and particularly that last one can could drive a young autist to strongly idealize and want to return to their elementary school years when everything was better. Moreover, following from that last point you can very easily see how pedophilic tendencies could easily develop; feeling rejected or unable to associate with age-peers, they can easily look back at that say 4th grader who they played with when they were in 6th grade. And, like all romantic/sexual attractions that manifest at this stage, once they get into the brain, they don't tend to get out all that easily.

This story also explains why the phenomenon has both sexual and non-sexual components. I feel as though the diaper sort of stuff could be roughly analogous, just taken a few steps further. There may also be some abnormal sensory processing related stuff involved as well and there is something generally abnormal about autistic sexual development.

I have to disagree with you there, amputees really aren't that widely sexualized and even if they were it's a category that can mostly only exist in the form of erotic drawings or a few photoshopped images. I think that BIID is a genuine mental illness, akin to the actually dysphoric trannies. It's not an uncommon symptom of various psychoses that someone believes that some part of their body is fundamentally wrong. I've mentioned before that about a fifth of schizophrenics report gender dysphoria at some point in their lives, but I'd imagine that if the idea of, for example, having your right and left eyes switched was as culturally prevalent as the idea of switching gender roles (even before modern troonery there have been plenty of gender swap/crossdressing/subversions of accepted gender role stories in many cultures, possibly because of AGP/AAP) then we'd see plenty of eyeball dysphoria in these patients too.

And maybe some alleged BIID sufferers are just amputation fetishists, but if so I'm sure that that's mostly an extension of hardcore BDSM practitioners and I'd think (admittedly, I don't have hard data here) that anyone who seriously wants to be an amputee for fetish reasons would first work their way up through all the other BDSM body-mods/lifestyle things and would have long since moved past the need to be coy about their reasons for wanting to be a daruma.

That's all I really have to say, I didn't learn about this until now because of how they changed their username and the fact that I couldn't stand their new videos.

How could black people or women advance any of their causes via "an individual standpoint"? Do you think every single black person or woman should have previously fought only against his or her own personal racist or sexist experiences, and ignored everyone else's? What a weird idea and they'd all still be slaves/unable to vote or own property in that case.

Don't lump the current tranny idiocy in with the real actual issues that black people and women have historically faced. Trannies are not persecuted or discriminated against except by reason of the stupid things they have deliberately caused to happen to themselves. If a mentally ill dude puts on a wig and a dress and doesn't get the job interview, or a depressed girl gets her tits chopped off and then gay men won't date her, it is in no way synonymous to a black man being shot by police for being black, or a woman being raped by a gang of men on a bus because she's a woman. For just 2 simplified examples.

I think a key point is that it's sort of independent of the "realness" or at least legitimacy/unjustness (however conceived). It's very much a plug-and-play type of pre-formed way of viewing the world that holds particular groups as marginalized in some broad, context-independent sort of way. It posits those groups as possessing privileged knowledge about their condition. Finally, it is assumed that the causes of said marginalization are external or at least extrinsic to the people themselves (i.e. they are absolved of their agency).

You can always find some metric Y (you don't even need a metric half the time, a single example will often suffice) in which group X is disadvantaged. Find an attention-seeking wannabe (or actual) victim to provide the unquestionable 'lived experience' and launching a moral crusade because it is axiomatically somebody else's fault. Reality or any consideration of proportionality isn't of truly pressing importance; it may be reasonable to conclude that there is a problem, or it may not be either way it doesn't matter to the op-ed writers at the Guardian or wherever. Often what really matters is just the loudness of the narrative itself, since it's this ritual of moral outrage is mostly an emotional outlet and few people participating in it have much insight (or desire for it) into the issue beyond whatever pours through their social media feed. The classic insane example of this is the troon murder epidemic, since it's so absurdly fake. However, it applies equally in cases concerning race or sex even if the mismatch between the magnitude of the problem (approx. zero) and the amount of coverage is more extreme in this specific case.

Great write-up, very interesting. I don't think autism is the only factor at work; many who go trans are autistic but many more aren't. Labelle and Stefonknee don't show many signs of autism, for instance.

First, my read on Stefonknee. Paul Wolshct grew up Catholic, got married and had 6 kids. I suspect he spent most of his life reflexively following the norms of the culture he lived in without much thought to what he wanted. He started a family and played the part of the responsible father because it's what he was supposed to do. As his family grew, the pressures and stresses increased, as did a question in the back of his mind about if this was what he really wanted.

At some point he tumbled down the rabbit hole of sissy porn. The part of the fantasy that appealed to him the most was being a little girl with no responsibilities, and thus Steffy was born. His crazy destructive behavior was the eruption of a lifetime of subconscious resentment toward the culture he felt he had been forced to go along with.

Labelle seems like a case of arrested development and denial. He was groomed by an older man, developed an attraction to men but can't bear to think of himself as gay. His child characters are an effort to live out the perfect trans childhood he didn't get to have, and now we know that a lot of his fantasy life, sexual and otherwise, is focused on returning to infancy. What I take from it is that his sexual traumas, probably combined with other bad memories, have made him want to flee from his reality as an adult gay man and return to childhood, the younger the better.

In the case of autistic troons with more "typical" trauma from puberty I can see your model checking out, but I don't see how it applies to the many men who are married with families and suddenly fall into fantasies of being a teenage girl or a child. Plenty of the younger transitioners also seem to have normal lives and healthy relationships before trooning. The desire to be extremely young, even prepubescent, seems to cut across different transgender psych profiles, you can see it in a lot of the trans widow stories.

Just a few thoughts: I don't think it's all autism per se, since many of the life experiences I mentioned aren't exclusively autistic. You could, for example, experience social failure/bullying in early secondary school and end up ideating over primary school without the 'tism. More generally, part of autism's connection to trooning out is indirect; the assocation is mediated by factors that are directly-linked to autism. Life experiences like social failure/isolation, NEETdom and being a shut-in are the most obvious examples of this. There is also the higher rate of hypersexuality and the at least partially associated tendency to develop paraphilias more generally. Related, in a more complex way is also the higher rates of generic mental illness (depression, anxiety etc.).

I'd also point that there is distinction between trooning out and wanting to LARP as a little girl or wear diapers, most troons don't do that and those that do - in my view at least - seem to more autistic. There's also a distinction between wanting to be a teenager (extremely common) and a prepubescent child. The former doesn't appear to be as surprising or atypical, especially if the troon has a fetishistic etiology (i.e. most of them), since teen porn is very popular and many men's ideal woman is something from their youth anyways. The 'second puberty' narrative that troons parade around probably doesn't hurt either nor does the fact that a desire to abnegate the responsibilities of adulthood often looms large. See for example, the escapism as you pointed out in Mr. Wolscht and that's also why you're going to see a lot of wanting to be (much) younger or else to be some kind of Stepford wife (also strangely common; occasionally you'll hear a transwidow talk about how her (previously useless) ex suddenly wanted to do chores, but basically just to LARP).

I also don't really see how Labelle doesn't show signs of being a bit on the spectrum. I cannot for the life of me imagine Guilliame being anything other than an oddball and a weirdo when he was a teenager. Try as hard as I might I cannot imagine this man having many/any friends. I am not an expert on the life and times of Mr. Labelle though so I may be wrong in my judgement. I agree that Wolscht might not be, but he's such a whack-job that it hardly matters. It'd be interesting to know what he was like when he was young.
