I looked up "autism manga". This was one of the first links:
"Manga focusses heavily on emotive imagery in its visual language, which is why most people with autism enjoy reading it. The most important and conventional aspect of Manga’s visual language is the use of facial expressions in characters. Manga has become a useful tool in improving autistic people’s understandings of emotions; this is due to the fact that the facial expressions are stylised and exaggerated in a comical or overly dramatic manner to stand out more to the reader".
Autistic people are shit at reading facial cues. It makes sense to me that they would be attracted to manga/anime.
