General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I kind of wish Cover would just create their own streaming service. Which I know is crazy for a multitude of reasons. Primarily the exposure they get on YouTube. But honestly, if Miko's MC Twitch stream showed anything it's that's fans are going to follow them regardless of platform. And with surprisingly minimal viewer fall-off. But that would be the only reason I would ever see Cover leaving YouTube.

No middle-man when it comes to donations, they can create a chat system that works for them. Potentially implement something similar to Mildom with levels based on view time and be able to limit chat to people above a certain one like kson does, which works really well. Have everything news, merch and Alternate-related on the same site. Basically a one-stop-shop for anything Hololive.

Again, I'm going to reiterate that this is incredibly unlikely and I'm oversimplifying the amount of effort that would go into creating something like that. But I mean, if they can do something like Hololive Alternate I do see it being in the realm of possibilities in the future depending on Cover's growth. It would just depend on how they weigh the growth and exposure that they get from YouTube, though nothing is stopping them from continuing uploading archives to YouTube and there will always be clippers.

Edit: If you consider that YT took 300k$ from Coco's SC alone. Just take that and hire some company to make it.

Guess I confused that with maymay review.
This is correct - meme review usually starts around 4:00 AM in my timezone so I usually watch the archive in the morning.

Ina already had INAFF.

Have fun push-up again.
Fortunately (for me at least) I consider this a good humour, not to mention that Kiara retweeted this 4-koma herself.

Isn't Ayame a chibi whose legs don't reach the floor when she sits in a chair?
Yeah, but if you see them next to each other in concert, she still seems to be about 3 inches taller. I’ll see if I can screengrab later. Also, it might just be how she likes her chair - I’m 6 foot and I try to have an inch or two of space above the floor when I can.

also, something I’ve been thinking about... can Vocaloid be considered like the proto-Vtuber? Or do they fall into the same weird niche that the Genki Rockets do?
I mean, even ignoring the fun little continuity bit that Kizuna Ai calls Hatsune Miko “onee-san” for being the first ‘living AI’:

they all have personalities and backgrounds despite basically being voice packs, they’ve done live concerts (using what I assume is the same basic system as Hololive), they have been played by actors in games so they sort of have an established character?

9 year old army I guess, or brofist I don't know.

Edit : I feel so bad to Ame. Zombos too loud my God it must be annoying hearing those scream.
We've been promoted to 19 year olds recently, actually.

She's also like 4'11", so tiny with giant tits. That's a standard 525ml bottle, for size comparison

For comedy value, here's Shaq holding approximately the exact same size bottle.

The weirdest/best part is that she's somehow still growing. She revealed she went up a cup and is now an L (K cup in english metrics)

Linus Tech Tips has been spending years developing their own streaming service (Floatplane) and even that is still pretty niche considering the size of their audience and the creators they already have on the platform.

And if you consider the cost of good software devs/engineers on top of infrastructure/maintenance costs for such a project, $300k is a cheap price to pay considering the additional manpower needed to develop and maintain that stuff.

I mean, I like the one-stop shop for all things Hololive idea, but considering this is a japanese company we're talking about, whatever they push out is going to be an unusable mess anyway. Just check out any Japanese website, even the ones catering to international retail. Just look at Niconico and how hard it is to navigate despite it being their alternative to YouTube.

To be fair, this is a problem with SAAS in general.

The whole SAAS model in general is so fucked because the whole point of building a platform is that you're supposed to build a userbase first, which requires at the very least you offer your service for free, losing a shit ton of money in the process, then once you have enough users you get VC funding to improve your product, but not in any way that actually generates revenue, no no no.

The end goal, the way a software "inventor" makes money is by making the product, then selling it off to a major corporation without bothering to think of how to make it generate cashflow, then inevitably once its sold, the cash flow solution will be to track user data and sell it to advertisers.

This is one of the reasons I'm falling more in love with actual distributed protocols like ActivityPub. I mean fuck they've found a way to do Live Content over the ActivityPub protocol (See: PeerTube) that should definitely help minimize costs to content providers, even the ones running the servers.

At this point, I can no longer tell which side is fucking with the other.

Also, I like Kitakoji’s new outfit a lot, makes her look like a character out of Hyperdimension Neptunia or something. But her still having the saw teeth is still freaky.

According to JP gachis, Aqua is 1.42 meters tall, that being 4'7"
That is unconfirmed, but it implies she is the tiniest thing in the Holo cast.
And just sit there helplessly while the lesbian sus Matsuri hugging and kissing her before the concert according to Subaru.

Having your own bespoke streaming service would also crater discoverability.

Edit: Gura has Super Metroid on the list for this week, shark of culture confirmed.

Someone said something about Christmas in Florida as a joke in her SCs.
It started about a week or two back, I posted when it happened, with Tomoshika saying “Here is some money, Steve”. and she got so many SC’s she ragequit the stream.
The next day it happened again, and she ragequit again.
So then the next few days people started sending her birthday money, so she started putting “My Birthday is Sept whatever”.
and now we‘ve moved on to Christmas.

This comes up in this thread pretty often, and my understanding is that generally the consensus is that Cover absolutely should be hiring moderation staff. Even beyond the China problem, most of the talent is big enough that chat is almost unmanageable without paid staff.
They do have staff doing some amount of moderating. There was a Subaru clip where she talked about getting into a banning competition with some other staff member before Coco assigned her own staff. It's not enough, but they haven't done nothing. Also, I think the talents might prefer mods that they can trust and communicate with rather than have some randos assigned by the company. How have Coco's deputies been working out?

Status of Thots and DSP: Big mad

Lion playing Loop hero for some reason, they got Devolver Digital permits now? can we have a Hotline Miami stream?
I love that Botan is the one constantly dipping into new and interesting games, though it’s been really bad for my wallet. Between Baba is You, Loop Hero, Trials and Steep, she‘s shown off more new games than some of the ones that seem to be using Hololive to advertise.

She’s like the inverse of Korone, where Korone likes to explore lots of old games.
