I like ZakuAurelius’ build vids because unlike other building/customization channels where they just do a quick montage of their process, he walks through his entire thought process in real time and explains his reasoning for doing things. Great resource for people who want to do their own customization/kitbashing.

Honestly don’t care too much for hardcore customization channels like Studio G. Their models are impressive and their videos are well produced, but they’re so far above my skill level that I’m not really learning anything by watching their videos.

I don’t really regularly watch any of the other guys, but if I need to get the general consensus of a kit I’ll look for each of their reviews.

I don't know if all gundam tubers are hated, but this guys review of the kit isn't bad and goes over what to expect.

Which brings up the question that's probably already been asked before, but are there any gundam tubers you guys watch?
Currently it's mostly Kakarot197 as a favorite with YouSeeGundam being a newer channel I'm peaking through to see if I like. ZakuAurelius is pretty okay if a bit long/boring and I can't stand Mecha Gaikotsu since he's loud and manhandles his kits while complaining they're flimsy.
ZakuAurelius is the only one I can tolerate. That Gaikotsu guy has the typical fake, hyperactive "YO YO YO, HWHAT IS UP, GUIZE" YouTuber douche personality, and Prime92's mouthbreathing tranny voice makes my ears bleed.

I honestly cannot tell if Prime92 is a tranny, or just really unfortunate looking.
I used to watch Gaikotsu, but his whole simping for BLM thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want a fucking irishman who plays with toys for a living telling me shit about American racial politics.

Currently I am building the RG EVA 00 (tfw I still haven't seen eva), and I am quite enjoying it so far. Hopefully we get both the mass production type, and the one with the extra arms (more arms=better. This is fact).

There’s pretty much a 0% chance of an RG MP Eva because the RG line so far has used exclusively the Rebuild designs, and the MP Eva isn’t in the Rebuilds. I have an unopened Unit-00 that I want to mod into a MP Eva, since the only real “custom” part you’ll need to make is the head (plus wings harvested from a Wing Gundam or a similar kit).

Alright I got the intention to recolor the Barbatos as a means of redeeming myself for my hard boiled escapade. Plus I want to.

What's the verdict on Gundam Markers, even particularly the metallic kind?
Tamiya sprays are usually my go-to but the cans are getting expensive for my budget and recoloring the Barbatos's white parts alone would use up like two cans. Might as well get a variety of colors for that price. I won't be using primer but I will be using a pearl clear top coat once I'm done.
Thoughts?

they're good, cover well for the most part, but if you boil the kit, they'll probably come off, so watch out for that one.

Think they'd be okay with a top coat?
yeah, but to be completely honest, if you're INTENT on doing this shit with the markers, you may as well get the airbrush thats made for them, too. just using the markers to recolor by drawing on probably wont look the greatest

We just went from $20 to $80. Is the airbrush really worth the additional $60~? What's your experience with it?

ive never used it, i guess my point is more that the gundam markers are really for small parts only unless you're doing either this, or painting on the ink with a brush. not really meant to just be colored in like that.

You make a good point. It's why I was using Tamiya sprays. 90% of this things armor is white and not all of that is smaller pieces either. However...

...I'm gonna think this redemption arc over. Maybe take a pass at it once my check clears and the bills are paid, because I don't even spend that much on a model kit.

pour some paint in water and then boil the parts in it, might change their color :^)

Wait... "looking"? I thought there were no photos of this creature.

Yeah, what was with that? Model kit people and websites just went full BLM for no reason. Someone had suggested it was because they didn't want to get attacked by the mobs but no, that was all volitional. Besides, BLM is too busy looting Walmart to care what Gundam is.
That said, I could swear Gaikotsu is three leaps away from trooning out just from his hands. Dude has very effeminate hands and he wears those sleeves where the thumb pokes through. You know, the kind teenage girls used to wear in school from Hot Topic. I bet he wears striped socks.

THANK you! That's what I'm talking about! Who doesn't want to have a Doc Oc tier mecha?

They're good for small details, but if you try to color a wider surface, they're really streaky. Make sure you let them dry a nice long time before trying to touch it up, or you'll dig into the drying first layer with the marker.

Newtype is just run by californians, and they're the only one i saw go BLM. they're doing some shit against asian hate crimes now too.

For gundam markers I would specifically grab the Real Touch Marker sets as they have some very nice accent colors that work on a lot of different kits plus it has two marker ends with different brush types (one for bigger area coverage and one for normal which I find is much nicer to use that the tip of the normal markers). Usually end up using the Brown or Yellow marker for most kits and then use Q-tips to smudge them, but I'll sometimes use the red/green/blue/etc. as a shader on light shades of those colors.

Though if you're looking specifically to use the Gundam Markers to repaint the kit then the Real Touch Markers probably aren't the best, they work best for shading/panel lining/accents. If you go with traditional Gundam Markers and don't mind hand painting you can decanter (don't know if this is the right word) the paint from the pen into a painting dish and use a very soft tipped brush.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm gonna go ahead and get that metallic Gundam Marker set but I'll probably use them like paint wells for a brush. If anything I can always go over any streaks with a gentle second coat of the marker after waiting for it to fully dry too. As long as I'm not rubbing it in but painting in a single direction and using a dry piece of a paper towel to softly suck up any areas where it might pool at corners I think I'll be okay. I got alligator clips I'll be shoving into a hard cardboard box for when I finish it up with the pearl clear top coat.
I know airbrushing is objectively the best (unless you're going for a weathered look) but that price is so scary I swear I've seen it leer at me from an alley once. Forget that. $20 bucks for markers is fine. I'll make it work.

There were a few other ones, too. Newtype is the one that gave us a BLM kit thing so they're more memorable.

Which is funny considering all the Asian hate crimes are coming from Blacks.

I got an airbrush kit off Amazon for about $125 (comes with a compressor, brush, hose, etc) and it’s perfectly serviceable for a beginner. That’s only about 2-3 kit’s worth of dough.
