looking at the state of diagnosis, this is the inevitable conclusion.
But this is partially caused by dsm flawed nature; A large repertoire of loosely defined 'trait'' as sole description of ASD.
This is why we got a spectrum so stretch that we get heavily intellectually disabled prone to self injury labeled the same manner as quirky and nerdy girl. Even if we separate by level of function we will get the same problem on closer inspection. Because how we label what autism and was isn't is flawed

when this diagram is more precise in what a geek/nerd/dweeb/dork is and isn't than the definition and distinction of ASD ind the DSM we have a problem

So what are the overlaps supposed to mean?

Main problem isn't with DSM... it's based on the definition of autism and the lack of said treatment when dealing with it.

Autism as defined is a mental disability which means that you are somehow mentally handicapped to the point where you'll never have a good life, meaning it's similar to down syndrome, awkward brain development and even times where you can lose function in your brain just from having a fatal accident.

Problem is, autistic people can function if given proper treatment; they just function with a different way of processing information. The fact that mental health treatment in the US (with the exception of certain states) is appallingly terrible means that autism will forever be classified similar to you losing the ability to walk, use your arms, use your mouth or even use any function of your body. Which are more debilitating and depressing.

I do get why people complain about autism, I don't get why they put more focus into genetics research and euthanization then in trying to teach autistic people how to function properly.

By that logic, everybody should call anything that has a flaw imperfect and then proceed to memory hole it from existence.

Nothing is perfect, that's logic. Even if anybody tries to make something perfect, there will always have flaws since total perfection is impossible.
Just because a kid cant be perfect doesn't mean you have to tard wrangle a sperg that cant understand basic human emotions for decades if not the rest of your life.

Something that's flawed is better than something that's broken.

You can teach a sperg emotions. You just have to do it as early as possible, be persistent and deal with the frustration that comes with it.

I do agree with your point for those who are just incompetent, lazy and apathetic like Barb Chandler who never bothers to get a handle on her son's life and just lets him do whatever he wants and even bails him out whenever he's in trouble.

Imagine having to teach your stupid kid how emotions work instead of just having a normal child lmao
