I was just a wonderin' if things have got a bit hot at home. Maybe the house has had pedo sprayed all over it and threats have been made. Rhys seemed to quit the rugby thing quickly and wondered if he was getting hassled. Due to the nature of the extra attention he wouldn't have been able to bleat about it on twitter. Maybe the locals are running them out of town.

What I find funny about this is that not only is he repeating the exact same pattern as he did when he left Canada for the US, he's also proclaiming that he's leaving academia by totally his own choice. I really hope someone FOIAs that resignation letter plus former co-workers start talking.

That isn't actually quite true. The AstraZeneca vaccine is mostly being manufactured by the Serum Institute in India, and they're mostly giving it away for free or at cost. In fact, this particular institute in India is the single largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world.

While there is some talk of actually instituting some international regime making vaccines public property, most of the vaccine manufacturers are, in fact, actually making their vaccines available for free, or at reduced cost, or giving licenses to entities (like the Serum Institute) that are then producing them and providing them for little or no cost to underserved populations.

As much bad shit as you can say about big pharma in general, they have actually stepped up to the plate on this one.

It's probably just an agreement that he didn't have to pay back the money spent on his health insurance since he didn't come back to work long enough. They also probably agreed to give him a recommendation for future employment (or at least to just verify his employment but not mention the conditions under which he left). He'll try to pass it off as a win, but I doubt he even walked out with any kind of severance pay or anything.

If only I lived along that route, I would hang a banner or rent a billboard that says "Bye, Rhys!" with an image of a dancing skeleton. Yeah, it's fucking autistic, but I would totally do it. Some TERFs should organize it. Would be hysterical for Rhys to have see that shit over and over as he is driving back to Canada.

I think it is possible that Rhys is fleeing to avoid the Danny fiasco -- I mean, surely he's been interviewed by the police about his roommate. But, it could just be that the humiliation of being fired is making him retreat to lick his narc wounds. And, if his visa was tied to his job, he has to leave the US once employment is ended and go through the visa process again, even if he had another US job lined up. When the company sets up the visa for you, it isn't transferrable to someone else. I worked with a Chinese guy who stayed at the job because he would have to return to China in order to get another visa to work somewhere else. It was just easier to stick with the crappy job than go through all that (and pay all the fees and cost of travel to do it).
