Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Has it ever occured to ian that maybe his show was just not very good? Say what you will about SU's later seasons but it never had to rely on countless crossovers for attention and had better animation, which isn't saying much.
To be fair to SU, its animation budget was slashed multiple times over the course of its run. You couldn't really tell with OK KO because it looked like that from the beginning.

I mean, it was his first official cartoon, so I understand being overprotective of him, but yeah, OKKO was not good.
The whole cross-media thing definitely did more harm than good. Even in the video game realm SU got the better treatment with not one but THREE decent starter RPG's in the vein of Paper Mario (not counting all the misc stuff like mobile titles). The most recent one just released on consoles too.

I find it amusing that even after all this, Ian still defends corporate, saying stuff like, “So many shows could have been saved thanks to HBO Max.”
Given what was discussed in the past pages, I’m pressing doubt on that.

I never heard that before. I thought it was all just a matter of art evolution and shifting of artists. Plus SU had a few off moments here and there in the first season.

The animation definitely wasn't as fluid in later seasons. They still had good looking episodes thanks to certain boarders and SMIP animating, but if you compare the average episode from the first season to the fourth it's pretty obvious.

That’s not exactly a confirmed source.

Sadly no (despite my best google-fu efforts), but I doubt you'll find many creators willing to shit-talk their studios by complaining directly about having less money. The closest I can recall is when the movie came out and certain members of the crew talked about "doing so much with so little" or some such.

I mean with only vague hints to go on, I can’t assume it was budget cuts. Not that I don’t believe it might be that but there could be other explanations.

I'm so sick of these people blaming Trump for all their failures.

OK K.O.! was airing, CN was bleeding money because nobody was watching their shows anymore.
Kids found their shows boring as hell to watch, and adults were disgusted for how awful they look. The audiences they did have being hyper-emotional hipsters were never big as they thought they were, and CN suffers for that.

OK K.O.! was one of those shows that fail to appeal to anyone, and thus CN cancelled the show, and it not surprising once you watch it because guess what, it sucks.

i was going to screenshot the incriminated anime superhero posts just for discover that the thread where a guy got blasted for posting a fairly innocuous bounding into comics article got scubbed of that. now the opening post links a crunchyroll article. and it says it was edited by a moderator. hmmm.
(archive for that, sadly after editing > http://web.archive.org/web/20200919...-age-writer-tatsuya-matsuki-arrested.5787588/)

but i can show the andy signore take.

edit: idk, the spoiler fucked itself. now it should work fine.

At least there was one good thing to come out of thisView attachment 2012189
The guy who self inserted as Blossom’s love interest in a reboot nobody liked and was a commercial flop lost his job?
Who could have seen that coming?

In the case of OK KO there’s also licensing fees to consider. Crossovers with CN shows is one thing but I can’t imagine Sega loaning out Sonic for free. Plus according to a pitch reel, Ian wanted to crossover with stuff like Sailor Moon, which I imagine wouldn’t be cheap either.

I think CN didn’t want to fund a guy’s mega crossover fanfiction if they were getting little returns for it.
It'll never stop...
Reminder that this guy bullied a cancer patient over revealing pre approved spoilers for a show she liked and his way of repenting was to simp for CN shows.
The sad part is this works.

people on anime superhero crying over disney shutting down blue sky studios for... not being able to relase nimona.
i'd say good riddance, since if it has to end like the she-ra reboot, it's better that is dead.
considering that as had a forum section just for that reboot...

Spoiler alert for Nimona in case you’re worried about that.
As it turns out, Nimona ends more or less the same way as She Ra, with the villain doing heinous shit and getting rewarded with a loving husband because “love was all he ever wanted”. If you thought She Ra’s ending was stupid, you would not have liked the movie.
Blue Sky Studios closing down does indeed suck ass and it was unfortunately something everyone was seeing coming. To rub even more salt in the wound, the last movie they ever released was freaking Spies in Disguise. Not a high note to go out on.

Well it looks like Camp Corral and the Rugrats reboot were not the only things coming to nickelodeon. With the exception of one original thing....sad.

Intrigued about the upcoming Avatar stuff but that's about it.

"Baby Shark's Big Show! - Based on the world-famous pop culture phenomenon"
Haven't learned a goddamn thing from FRED eh Nick?

"A new CG TMNT movie involving Seth Rogan" First He-Man now this? What is it with Seth Rogan getting into nerd properties lately? His stoner comedies stopped making money already? They should just bring the one from 2012 back and save some money on 3D assets.

A CG Smurfs show (once again, haven't learned a goddamn thing) and a new Avatar movie sound unnecessary but interesting. Other than that, this new animation slate looks souless. My nephews might watch the Patrick Show though.
