Lol I had a look at that masstagger shite he abuses, its hilarious the list of subreddits on there. Its more "things I don't agree with" than anything else.
An additional irony for this exceptional individual is he usually parades this pyramid chart around as part of his effort in “debating” others; though 99% of the time he will just accuse people of being a fascist by bringing up their masstagger information, usually with a very autistic specification of the logical fallacy being used.

I said I was going to post about Bardfinn, his private Redditor wrongthinker database/blacklist and Masstagger, so let's go.
Background for all the newbies to this thread: there is an SJW Reddit wrongthink vigilante by the name of Bardfinn (a supermod who controls over 60 subreddits and is very active in the /r/AgainstHateSubreddits milieu) who has openly stated that he pulls the contents of entire subreddits through the Reddit API in order to mirror them and use those contents to create offline political profiles of specific Reddit users he want to target. He claims to have thus created a large "database of wrongthinkers" on Reddit. It is assumed that he has shared his database with Nathan Beam, the creator of the Masstagger browser plug-in, a piece of software that purports to identify known "white supremacists" on Reddit.
Bardfinn claims that the people he has politically profiled are all Neo-Nazis and white supremacists engaged in hate-speech on Reddit, but it is widely assumed that he's rather targeting garden variety conservatives while falsely accusing them of hate speech in order to create an excuse for their inclusion in his database. Doing so also allows Bardfinn to inflate the number of wrongthinkers on Reddit in order to create FUD amongst the wider user base that "Neo-Nazis have taken over Reddit."
No one really knows what Bardfinn actually does with the contents of this database or whether he was commissioned by Reddit themselves to carry out this task (many suspect this is the case and that he's working in concert with Reddit but there is no hard proof for this, just assumptions and theorizing). Bardfinn has indicated that he has shared parts of his database with Reddit themselves in an effort to convince them to ban certain individual redditors or specific subreddits for containing large numbers of wrongthinkers. He also claims to know and communicate with Reddit's CEO personally, and it is hence assumed that he has shared his database with the CEO, urging him to adopt more stringent rules.
Some of you suggested that Masstagger is the same thing as the private blacklist database of Redditor wrongthinkers that Bardfinn has been maintaining. That is not correct. Masstagger and Bardfinn's own blacklist are two different things that he has tried to integrate. Basically, whenever Bardfinn adds someone to his private blacklist, he makes sure that this person is also "tagged" in Masstagger, as well as RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite), another program he uses that you should familiarize yourself with.
In this post Bardfinn talks about his blacklist database and the different kinds of software he uses to assist him with his political profiling of Redditors. He specifically highlights and praises Masstagger ("MassTagger is the best of class in this field"). He also admits that he's targeting users and not just subreddits:

As you can see, he openly admits that he maintains a database of "participants in" subreddits he doesn't like. This has always been about targeting politically profiling and targeting groups of users, not just individual subreddits.
Then he openly admits that he doesn't need to use Masstagger to know which Redditors are wrongthinkers, because he puts those accounts in his own database first, and these entries are only later transferred to Masstagger:

This statement "and I verify the intent of the users in the database I've collected, weeding out false positives" is impossible to verify, because he's not public about his research. You just have to trust him blindly at his word that he supposedly does this. This man, who assumes nothing but bad faith and evil intent on the part of others, demands that you assume nothing but goodwill and due diligence on his part. Do you honestly trust him?
Bardfinn consistently and deceptively refers to his private blacklist as "research", but suffice to say this is not any form of legitimate research in the academic sense. First and foremost, researchers of any sort have to obtain prior consent from their research subjects. No one ever consented to being a part of Bardfinn's "research", so this does not constitute legit research. Additionally, researchers have to disclose their credentials, their methodology and their results for something to qualify as legitimate research, none of which Bardfinn has ever done. In fact, Bardfinn has responded in the most hostile manner anytime someone has asked pointed questions about his "research". Bardfinn might LARP at being a researcher but he does not wish to follow the rules of legitimate research.
Here is Bardfinn talking about his private database with a Redditor: "it's in a database on my laptop, occasionally backed up to the cloud".
This statement should alarm you: "Once I sit down and strip out all the privileged information, it might go into something useful". This is brogrammer codespeech for him wanting to monetize all the information he has illegally obtained from Redditors who never consented to being part of his research.
Another sentence to remember from this post is Bardfinn's blatant admission that he is "cataloguing" the contents of entire subreddits, not just specific user accounts. This means he has inadvertently politically profiled millions of Redditors, not just the 30k-40k he now claims are in his blacklist. Relate this to the fact that Bardfinn does not disclose his research methodology: we don't know what Bardfinn does after Reddit decides to nuke a certain subreddit he had targeted for deletion. Does Bardfinn then remove his local mirror of that subreddit once it's gone? Presumably, he doesn't. Everything suggests that Bardfinn maintains his local mirror of a deleted subreddit, which allows him to follow its' users to other subreddits, thus allowing Bardfinn to track them.
Here Bardfinn is trying to deflect about Masstagger being used to stigmatize not just accounts that actively participate in subreddits he hates, but even accounts that merely participate in those subreddits to debate oppositing opinions:
Bardfinn mentions "skilled, trusted humans vet[ting] the information", but he himself is neither skilled or trusted to do that. He also falsely claims that "Masstagger is just a red flag", when that's clearly not how it's being used. Masstagger is exclusive being used to exclude certain Redditors from certain parts of Reddit. It is about digital gatekeeping and social ostracization.
In this post Bardfinn talks about his mirroring of /r/The_Donald, once again revealing that he is primarily interested in politically profiling Redditors so he can track then across the site: "Every sample of 1000 comments I take from /r/The_Donald, there's 150-200 accounts participating that I've never tagged before.":
In this post Bardfinn basically admits that his "research" isn't about finding and tracking outright white supremacists and neonatsees. It's about tracking literally anyone and everyone that doesn't subscribe to his brand of far left SJW dogma. He admits that, even by his standard (and God only knows what that is) only 3% of the accounts he mirrored on /r/The_Donald were outright white supremacist accounts.
In this post Bardfinn admits that the only way to prevent him from mirroring the users of a subreddit is for the moderators to set it to private - which is not a watertight method, because we know he uses sockpuppets to infiltrate subreddits, like the way he used to infiltrate the far left subreddit /r/ChapoTrapHouse so he could post his far left opinions where without it being traced back to his main /r/Bardfinn account: "If they subsequently set their subreddit private(...) - it makes it harder to manually confirm and/or clear the autotag placed on participants in the hate subreddit":
Finally, here is the post where Nathan Beam aka /u/morpen, the developer of Masstagger, openly admitted that there are, quote, "one million and counting" Redditor accounts in the Masstagger blacklist:
Consider the fact that Bardfinn himself is one of the main contributors to Masstagger, and in the light of his public statements above that he has synchronized his personal blacklist with Masstagger, and Bardfinn's claim that he has "only" profiled "just" 30k Redditors seem increasingly unlikely. Where did those "one million and counting" Redditors in the Masstagger blacklist come from? Most likely from Bardfinn own database, now synchronized to add any account he personally blacklists into the Masstagger list as well.
I have more on Masstagger, but this should help you understand, for now, why Masstagger and Bardfinn's own blacklist are really two different things. Bardfinn's statements suggests that he usually adds Redditor accounts to his own blacklist first, which are then added to the Masstagger blacklist with a slight delay.
The most important thing that I hope you understand is this: Bardfinn has gotten a lot of subreddits banned, but his intent was always to eventually get entire groups of Redditors themselves banned, not just the subreddits on which they congregate. Bardfinn wants to ban groups of people of a certain ideology, not just "hate-subreddits".

I would be surprised if he isn't getting money from "anti-hate" organizations. I doubt he is getting paid by Reddit, in order to keep their hands cleans as possible. But these "anti-hate" NPO's are flush with cash right now and have little scrutiny.
