Something I learned after partaking in dumb internet slap fights is that you have to explain and expand on absolutely everything you're saying because people are too autistic to fill in the blanks themselves and immediately take whatever you said and argue a completely different point than whatever you were saying. This is especially true on Reddit. If Blarg didn't take a whole paragraph to clarify that the birthday message was in fact, not Dan, and was just there to establish that she was 17 when they first had contact then of course Redditors are going to tear him to pieces. It's incredible how fucked this game of telephone has gotten. People are somehow getting "DAN WAS A PEDO RAPIST GROOMER!!!" out of all of this, when it was never even insinuated that that was the case in the first place.

Yeah, like wouldn't you tend to gravitate towards one or the other? What's the point of having both gendered and "gender neutral" pronouns? Reminds me of when people on Twitter freaked out because a celebrity changed her pronouns to "she/they" and there were a bunch of attention whores posting selfies of themselves and saying "me and celebrity go by she/they!"
Just because it's not a child doesn't mean it's not grooming, this kind of shit happens between adults all the time. Sure it's not illegal like child grooming, still morally unjust behavior. I actually agree with pushing the age of majority to 25, since that's supposedly scientifically the lower bound for the completion of the pubertal development of the frontal lobe (and thus, judgment capacities). That, and in order to keep things the way they are, you have to actually make the push to fully socialize people once they hit 18, but given that you have the people currently in power fixing to treat college as grades 13-17 while insisting on its necessity, given the growing inclination to keep kids living at home with their parents until well into their 20s either because of college or because of their inability to make a good enough living, and given the lack of ritual transition to adult status in our society, you can't say that we're presently anywhere close to trying.
