Windows 10?Wanna get a second opinion here.
So recently my graphics have started glitching. Every now and then the desktop would freak out, my cursor would jump to the middle of the screen, my second monitor would blank and all my windows would go to my main desktop. It's very strange because you think a problem like that would lead to a panic, but it's totally fine after it's freakout. So I'm thinking nothing is wrong with the actual circuitry, but it's a power supply problem, not enough energy getting to everything. I swapped the PSU and so far everything seems fine but I'm still waiting. My second thought is that it's the motherboard and it's just a really unique issue that the OS/firmware can't detect. I only think this because after a reboot, my ethernet stopped working and it forgot what audio device it's supposed to output to. It only happened once, though.
I'm really not interested in installing (or buying) Windows 10. But it seems like I have no real options at this point. My copy of Windows 7 Ultimate simply refuses to work with my new hardware. It's like Microsoft has intentionally broken their older software so that you are forced to upgrade to the newest version.
What are the best ways to go about installing and configuring Windows 10? I dislike the way it is always connected and I really don't want any of Microsoft's extra junk siphoning off my data. I know that's sort of a losing proposition to begin with, they've been stealing my data for years. But you guys know what I mean I think. How should I go about using Windows 10? I've already got a Linux system and it works fine but I can't play most of my games and it's a real hassle.
Thanks! I'll be sure to do that.Literally just turn off all the telemetry stuff in the settings. That's it. It actually works.
The forced updates are annoying but you can change it with a Group Policy setting. It still annoys you with notifications asking to update but it will never force a restart.
If at all possible, use LTSC, which cuts out all of the bloatware (no Candy Crush, etc)What are the best ways to go about installing and configuring Windows 10?
You're looking for Open-Shell: https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-MenuAs far as the UI is concerned, is it customizable in a way that allows me to make the OS look like an older version of Windows like 7 or XP?
If that's not a joke, and you actually want to get your files back, stop using the hard drive ASAP, and run some sort of recovery tool off of a live USB (and onto some third drive). I don't know what the best tool for this purpose is on NTFS though, I've only ever had to do it on Linux.Windows 10 updated on my laptop and wiped my hard drive, what do I do now?
False alarm, Microsoft was just being gay and moved all my stuff around for some reason. If that's not a joke, and you actually want to get your files back, stop using the hard drive ASAP, and run some sort of recovery tool off of a live USB (and onto some third drive). Thanks again for all the help. Also @The Fool and @longtimelurkerfirsttimepo. LTSC is pretty complicated to acquire through a source that I am comfortable with, though it seems like a great choice. Shame that Microsoft doesn't make it simpler to get... though the reasons for that are pretty obvious. How else can they use me as the product with all their built-in junk? Instead I'll go with a regular consumer version of Windows 10 and debloat the fuck out of it and follow the other advice given. Will be nice to play my 4X strategy games and my waifu games again. If at all possible, use LTSC, which cuts out all of the bloatware (no Candy Crush, etc)
You can also try to personalize the ISO of your W10 installation, but there seems to be multiple ways to do so, along with scripts:Thanks again for all the help. still should ditch the HDD for a SSD.False alarm, Microsoft was just being gay and moved all my stuff around for some reason.
Yeah, it's a pain to do it legit. You have to have a Win10 Pro license first off, then buy the LTSC licenses through a reseller (along with enough dollar-bin software to qualify for an account). I used Provantage and it worked fine.LTSC is pretty complicated to acquire through a source that I am comfortable with, though it seems like a great choice.
You're looking for youtube-dl.I'd like to get advice on the best program (or website) to use in order to download videos from other websites. What would anyone suggest? I have Windows 10.
Is it pretty safe regarding viruses or bugs? I have Norton 360 - would a program like that be able to take care of a lot of bugs on websites? (Sorry, I am VERY tech illiterate)You're looking for youtube-dl.

Despite the name, it can do just about every website.
Yes, this is a high-profile open-source project with a lot of eyes on it. Just make sure that you get it from the official release on Github, not some third party. Is it pretty safe regarding viruses or bugs?
Yes. I would suggest using it on linux or a linux based virtual machine. It makes it a lot easier imoIs it pretty safe regarding viruses or bugs? I have Norton 360 - would a program like that be able to take care of a lot of bugs on websites? (Sorry, I am VERY tech illiterate)
