General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

If it's something like Big Corporate, like the curry Nishin ad that Donald Duck, Pekora and the Onion did, I could see it happening. Those shit-tier gachas are backed by what amounts to a glorified casino scam, so they also have their pockets lined up in dosh. The thing is how many of those do they have to do to get permission for their own personal projects.
Either way you are right, her roommate comes off as really cold and calculating, which is a good thing in the dark-company environment she's gotten into.
I'm confident the holo girls will end up being millionaires sooner rather than later, I just have a harder time beleiving a 137k youtuber is pulling that kind of money. It feels like she anticipates that remark by saying vtubers get paid more than youtubers.

Sure the corporations have that kind of money, but they don't get or keep it by tossing it out to random people. It just doesn't square with what I know of the going rates for this kind of content, even from people who have fandoms massively larger than hers. It could be a cultural disconnect where the Japanese just pay more for this kind of thing than the more saturated english speaking sphere.

My guess is she grossed 10,xxx,xxx yen that year and decided that constituted "tens of millions". I could see her moving that kind of money overall if, for example she was doing contract video editing with a small number of employees, which seems like might have been the case. In which case she really wasn't earning that money as a "vtuber" per se.

Without the setting the simps cant work their magic but is probably d&d or whatever system they were using for the murder mistery
The Gumshoe system would be pretty good for a murder mystery. However, that's pretty obscure and I doubt they'll go for it. I'd love to see them play BESM as themselves. Or maybe play a translated Japanese game like Ryutama. Nevertheless, it's probably D&D.

Horni no more, just happy

Also my suspicions were correct and Calli want to make a Tabletop RPG sessions like her sempais, they are still deciding the system (and probably the campaign)

I will just leave this here for no reason at all ;)

I’d love to see them play anything related to Warhammer, but how much does anyone at Hololive know about the game.? It’s a niche of a niche in Japan although considering Japan’s love of Call of Cthulhu, you could probably get them to play it by saying it is the sci-fi version of that.

But even the EN girls would only know of it in passing, unless any of them have made a more than passing reference to it.

My money is on Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition, now with wheelchair accessible dungeons. Not all that stoked about that, but it is the most likely system they're going to play. It's the "household name" at this point.
I seem to recall it'll be a World of Darkness module of some kind. Calli had basically summed up all the major ones (Vampire, Werewolf, Changling, etc), and let the girls decide what sounded most interesting. I THINK it was implied they chose WoD: Wraith? She made it sound like it was basically like Personas from Shin Megami Tensei.

i will make it my personal mission to erase china from the face of the earth. Lend me your strength matsuri

It's going to be D&D 5E. The campaign setting is going to be Forgotten Realms or FR with the serial numbers filed off. They're going to be sponsored in some fashion. The tooling is going to be D&D beyond. One of them is going to be a tiefling.

Huke is a massive tard of 40k to the point that he has won awards with his ultra smurfs models, so you can start from there

Admittedly she was one of the prominent members of the Kizuna AI. gang upd8. Though I agree, I'd be surprised she would have earned anywhere near a 100 million yen. And even listening to someone who did, Coco, said she was absolutely shocked at the amount of taxes she had to pay when everything was said and done. So the 10's of millions Polka is talking about could have easily become something like 80k$. This is someone who, from what it sounds like, lives in a cramp appartement, used a single monitor until fairly recently, and also goes to a cobbler to get her (40-50ish $) shoes fixed instead of buying a new pair.

Plus, the way she describes her work ethic sounds absolutely miserable. 20 hours editing a single video. She still sometimes does that now at Hololive, like the recording of her unpacking stuff and then her commenting over it or the prerecorded concert. But definitely to a lesser extent.

Glad to see we're back to doomposting.

On the one hand, I could see an entertainer trying to seem poor to keep relatable to their fans. On the other, we also know of tons of youtubers who try to seem way richer than they are too.

If you take a superchat gross of 1,000,000 yen:

- youtube 30% off the top: 700,000
- split 50/50 with cover: 350,000
- Income tax of 23% + prefectural taxes of ~10%:: 234,000

so for every million yen of superchat, the girls take home about $2300. I remember poor Noel also mentioned she had a rude awakening learning about "estimated taxes" (in japan and the US you are actually supposed to pay taxes quarterly, but 90% of people don't know this because the automatic paycheck witholding done by their employer covers the majority of their tax bill).

This math does lend some credence to some of the stuff that she mentioned in the article, that superchat seems like an inefficient way to earn income. We don't know what the base salary of the girls is, and what they earn from merch, membership, adsense, but it may explain why so many of them operate secondary channels.

If anything it suggests the hologirls must not care too much about superchats, since they're labor intensive (time spent reading/reacting), potentially dangerous, and probably only get paid out to them in intervals.

If you do the same math for a VOMS girl like Pikamee who gets to keep all her superchats:

- youtube 30% off the top: 700,000
- Income tax of 23% + prefectural taxes of ~10%:: 539,000

Pikamee would then earn ~$5390 of every million yen superchat at her. We of course don't know if different girls/gens have negotiated different rates with hololive, but most other examples of envelope math I can find come to around the same numbers. These numbers would shift around a bit if you actually properly applied the marginal tax rates instead of lopping off the top like I'm doing. Plus there's a really bullshit seeming ~5% self employment tax that I'm not sure how it gets applied to girls with two channels (e.g., 5% flat off their total yearly income, or 5% off of the gross of their self employment? I assume the latter).

There's no question these girls have big hustle and are probably not hurting for cash because they're young, pretty, and talented. Just remember that next time you're about to superchat 500$ at them to say "kusa".

EDIT: More autistic math figuring

We know that many of the girls live in Tokyo, so we can probably use the cost of living there as a "sanity check" vs any calculations we do.

A shitty apartment in tokyo can be had for ~700$/month. Japanese renting is notoriously weird and strict, and most landlords aren't going to rent to you if your income is not high enough. If we assume they enforce the 30% rule, that means the girls would have to earn at least 28,000$ to rent anything at all. This number of course changes if parents are willing to co-sign leases. We can further refine our estimate if we know for sure if a particular girl has a one or two bedroom apartment by using the median rent for that size of apartment.

For example, a 2-bedroom apartment is ~1,900$/month (lets knock it down to 1500, the girls work from home and are likely not as location sensitive), meaning a girl living alone in a 2BR would need to be earning 60,000$/yr to secure her lease.

If we knew what the holohouse rent was, we might be able to take a reasonable stab at Rushia's paper income, because I recall hearing her application was denied. I could see it being because her stated income was slightly too small for a high end landlord to feel comfortable renting a nice place to her.

I don't tell many people this, but since I find you guys vaguely likable I'll share:

I spent 1 week in a psych ward a few years ago for some shit I said in a youtube comment. Cops came to my house about a month after it and read off the absolute autism I spouted while I was completely shitfaced drunk. Sucked, and now I'm not allowed to own a firearm in my state unless I appeal, which will never be approved. Never drink and post.

The funny part was the cops were zoomers and recognized I was just being a drunk shit, but they had no choice. Their bossman made them take me to the hospital and the shrink there was mad about what he saw and committed me. I ended up being in the actual crazy ward (3rd floor) for 3 days, talking shit throwers and everything, but after 3 days they put me in the suicide ward cuz those people were at least normalish. It sucked, but this crazy milf kept trying to drag me into the laundrey room to fuck, but I denied cuz I just wanted to gtfo. She ended up getting recommited, so I think I made the right decision
Prolapse, you faggot, is that you?

Because that sounds almost exactly like something that drunken miserable autist would do.

Hasn't she said multiple times in the last 6 months that she's trying for something in World of Darkness?

Someone, please give this turkey an actual fishing game so that she can sperg all she wants about fishing.

Her and Calli should have a SEGA Bass Fishing competition.

Also, with Monster Hunter Rise releasing in a few days I wouldn't be surprised if Luna sees quite some growth in the coming months. Had it not been for the original content snap, her MHW (and Dark Souls) videos would have been a pretty large draw for overseas viewers. So now that she actually doesn't have to worry about having to privatize them and she can actually show that she's surprisingly good at them (though still learning the new mechanics) I'm expecting her streams to garner a fair amount of new viewers.

Edit: It's depressing how hard she got hit compared to the others in her generation, along with Watame.
