Biomutant is a recently announced open world semi-scifi action rpg published by THQ Nordic where you play a little animal thing in a world of animal things. Combat involves a mix of gun shooting and sword melee fighting.
Here's a CGI trailer for the game:
And here's 11 minutes of gameplay:
By the looks of it you'll be able to have some control over how your character looks and have some moral choices in a sort of Fallout 3 esque fashion (though I hope it does a better job than Fallout 3 did at it).

I think this game looks really cool and has a lot of potential. It could still use a bit of work what with its movement animations, and I personally think the narrator could get annoying after a while (hopefully its just something for the tutorial), but otherwise I think this game shows a lot of promise. I know its a little thing, but I love the gun sound effects. They sound really satisfying. Anyways, what do you guys think? Anyone excited for it?

Pretty unique character and setting. Well, by today's standards anyway.

Main character looks like a Final Fantasy version of Master Shifu from Kung Fu Panda.
I wonder how long it will take and the furries will flood the internet with Biomutant porn.

It's probably already started.

It's probably already started.
Which is kinda sad because this game looks like it has potential, though I guess it will be more-of-the-same, just with fuzzy animals rather than edgy Anime warriors.
Furries ruined Dust: An Elysian Tail which was a great game (for one person done the whole work) and extremely player-friendly but held back by the furry vibe.

Dust wasn't ruined by anything.
Its still a good fun game. If there's any complaint to be had by Dust, its that Fidget is the only character with a decent character design. Even the enemy designs in Dust are dull. Also being able to fly through the map can be very OP at times.

The game still seems to have a lot of pushovers by itself over these years in private. With these couple amounts of delaying they've done already, I kinda feel that the game's getting canceled pretty soon. Feels like Scalebound all over.

That would be weird since they just put up for sale an even more premium collector's edition. Not saying it isn't possible, but would be weird.

Yeah, it is weird. When you think about that the game skipped its release window twice (2018 and Summer 2019), still has no release date in sight and already putting out Collector's Edition, to begin with. From this it looks like they feel ready to release it soon. Hopefully.

But yet they don't have any marketing sense whatsoever for the game as well, there are no story-focused trailers or something close of why or how the game's universe has come to animals turning into mutants; gaining intellect in martial arts, gun/weapon mastery and technology. All whats there are maybe 2-3 Biomutant relatable gameplay videos and teasers with little than 70k views maximum on their official channel and silence from the devs. I can tell you nobody knows the game. Very few talking about it.
THQ and 101 should push the advertisement before releasing it. The game would be flopping right now for these 3.5 years of work on it.

Seems the game has a release date! May 25, 2021!

This video seems pretty legit. At one point you're riding a airship esque thing and literally drop Anchor to start ground running(3:10), It has a Comix Zone/Viewtiful Joe styled combat. It seems like its trying to be very eclectic. At one point you can see the main character riding a mechanical hand and the hand does a shooting gun gesture firing a shot at an enemy(4:40). There is also a 'Bubble' mechanic that shows a bubble surrounding the character and it collects enemy on the outside and eventually it bursts causing the enemies to scatter. There is a gliding mechanic seen. There is a submarine type battle section(6:30).

It's giving me solid 'Adventure Time' vibes wherein AT exists in the 'real world' but after a nuclear holocaust of sorts resulting in radiation creating everything. Similarly you can see the main character zip glide down to something that looks like a Boeing 747(6:00).

Overall the game looks like a combination of Monster Hunter/Kingdoms of Amalur. might seem a little cheesey but the combat looks varied between weapons/shooting/martial arts/some sort of magic stuff.

Oddly they're advertising a 'Special Pre-Order Class' which seems worrisome. The class seems to be a dual wielding ninja and nothing about the game info talks about 'Classes' like how many there will be.

ABOUT THIS GAME

BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:
  • A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

  • EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

  • NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

  • GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

  • SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

  • AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

They claim its a mixture of Ratchet n Clank/DMC/Batman Arkham.

They explain there are 6 tribes...3 good karma/3 bad karma and you can choose any of the 6 tribes. You can change allegiance throughout if you want. in the center of the map there is a huge tree which will adapt to the tribe (good/bad) youve chosen. Good tries to unit the various tribes whereas Bad tries to conquer and imprison.

overall..I was already looking at buying this day 1 but now I will definitely be buying day 1.

The new trailers look a lot better than the old ones. Definitely keeping an eye out.

Has the comic book shit during the combat always been there? Can't say I'm a fan of that as it kind of clashes with the rest of the art direction.

Been there for a couple of years now, I think.

But reviews aren't looking too good, but then again everyone saying bad about Biomutant also gave Cyberpunk 2077 rave reviews... so... 🤷

Review so far range from mediocre to borderline good. If the reviews are accurate the biggest deal breaker for me is that there is basically no plot and the characters exclusively communicate in grunts and growls. I'm a huge rgp nut so story and characters are really important to me.
