I think the amount of time he's been coomposting and the extent of it might've started then, but even so, he was still active on the internet with his smart phone (like all of his videos are with his phone). COVID wasn't a thing when he was filling up his youtube playlists of "4 year old girls gone wild".

Even if he didn't have a laptop which was possibly given to him by the school, he could still twitter post using his phone.
