You can definitely eat a Krispy Kreme donut every day and be healthy. But you can't gorge on Krispy Kreme every day and be healthy. You can eat McDonalds and lose weight, or you can eat salads and gain weight. It's all about calories and amount of food (and how that food splits into different types).

But it's being disingenuous to say it's a universally good thing to eat Krispy Kreme every day for a healthy diet. Because the vast majority of people don't look at their total calorie and sugar intake and how that donut would augment those values.

It's really not that difficult to understand. I don't get how fatties are smooth brained enough that these concepts slide right past their brains.

Honestly, for kids? I don't think a donut a day is healthy or justifiable, certainly not something a pediatrician should be actively encouraging. One original glazed KK donut is like 10% to 20% of a young child's recommended daily calories, and it's obviously completely devoid of nutrition. It's a good once a week treat or similar imo, but it's a treat for sure.

Edit: And I'm nowhere near orthorexic or a food nazi. I just know how easily kids get full on crap and then refuse to eat nutritious meals.

Also, the idea that not having free access to any food you desire whenever you desire it will cause eating disorders seems really specious, fear-mongering, and unscientific to me. If Mom offers pineapple and yogurt instead of Frosted Flakes and Pop Tarts, is that "dangerous"? I'm sort of done with a lot of doctors tbh.

Last time I was at a waterpark, there were deathfats going down the slides rated for 250 lbs and below. Some looked like Chantal. I'm guessing the teen employees working at the top of the slides decided they aren't getting paid enough to say "no" to a screechy deathfat.

I've read deathfats claiming to be former anorexics (not just BED or bulimia), but can't show one single picture of themselves at a non-obese weight. At least this one is faking a more plausible eating disorder. If someone lies to me, I want the lie to at least be plausible.

The study is just stating the fact, they didn't think the link between neurochemical reactions and sugar as being addictive has been sufficiently proven.
Some scientists extensively work with that theory. And, like this journalist (what was his name - Gary Taubes) found out, most studies were flawed because of the sugar industry funding them. So that a study suggesting the contrary from the early 20th century was buried under all these other diet-narratives we were taught.

But for this "FA-activist" this is enough proof. Sugar is not addictive, just when it is withheld from you. You should always, always include sugar in your daily feed. Just don't restrict!

There have been several "studies" showing that giving little kids tons of sugar doesn't make them hyper, but any parent can tell you that's bullshit. Try giving four year olds too much cake/cookies/candy and watch what happens.

The throwing up the hands in horror at the very IDEA of denying a child something yummy for fear it will set up a lifetime of problems is beyond eye rolling to this old fart.

I was raised in a time when there were set meal times & only rarely was snacking between meals allowed & you can bet it was a small snack - so as not to spoil the appetite for the upcoming meal.

Sometimes we had dessert, sometimes we didn't... nobody freaked when we didn't. Items such as ice cream, soda & baked goodies were rare TREATS. Fast food & take out? Even more rare.

My generation has no excuse if we didn't teach our kids the importance of what I'll call 'food hygiene' - firmly keeping food in its lane & not letting it become everything, showing some discipline about when we eat & making we balance calories in & calories out. Either too many of us dropped the ball or the kids figured they had no reason to listen... until the extra weight kicked them in the ass.

Everyone I checked up on from my school who turned out to grow up into fatties were all the kids who's parents just let them eat way too much junk, so a lot of them. Most of them weren't even fat as kids, but it sure did catch up with them. Teaching kids to eat sweets and chips in even "moderate" amounts every single day is going to set them up for poor health for the rest of their life time. A can or bottle of soda, a cookie and a bag of chips with lunch every day was the norm for a lot of the other kids and it's done a lot of damage in the long run. Those vending machines in high school didn't help either. I remember being taken aback by the idea that other kids in my middle school could just grab a candy bar or a soda without permission from their parents.
 
Imagine legitimately cutting a true friend or loved one out of your life because they want to eat a bit less, throwing a dear relationship away because someone posted a fucking silly meme about dropping a few pounds, lmao. FA gets more cultish and antisocial by the day. Addiction makes people myopic and cruel.

How fragile are these people, goddamn. It's so easy to push them over the ledge, just by saying YOU want to lose extra fat you gained, because obviously that means you hate all fat people and want them to die. And somehow secretly you also envy and/or want to fuck them, according to some FA's.

I think vending machines in schools were a bigger contributer to our current obesity crisis than people like to admit. Even if you had a healthy food culture at home, all you needed was some spare change to start a daily bag of chips habit, or what have you. I even remember the school cafeteria not being open after school, but if you were there for band rehearsal or just to study and you wanted a snack, the vending machines were still there. A junky after school snack was way more the norm than a piece of fruit, because it was there.

And now we're at the point where actual pediatricians are saying a donut a DAY is fine. This is making me sad on the internet tonight. Time for bed.

Donuts aren't even donuts anymore. Almost nobody eats a plain donut because those are now boring. They're all decorated and filled-with-whatever calorie bombs. It's not fine to feed a kid a 400 kcals glazed sugar bomb daily, and that guy should be tossed out of his profession asap.

My high school also had salads and sandwiches, but you had to pay for them.
That's borderline evil to be honest.

Not to derail, but after reading these comments I'm not surprised there are so many fat people in the states. Combined with idiot fitness "experts", yoyo- diets and the rise of self-care and sjw-culture, no wonder fat acceptance movement was born.

Slight PL, but damn I'm happy to be a eurofag. Our food in school was delicious most of the time.

I like plain donuts, but they're really not that much better. At Dunkin Donuts, a plain stick, for instance, is 410 calories, while a glazed stick is 470 calories. An old fashioned (plain) donuts is 310 calories, whereas a boston kreme is 270 calories. I don't know how plain can be more calories than a donut with creme in the middle and chocolate frosting, but it is.
