I tend to suspect that the DFE effect was an intentional side benefit of the software upgrade. The forum had already gotten more paranoid/locked down in the wake of Jake's dox drop. They stopped approving new accounts, and I'd be willing to bet that they locked threads or subforums behind the reg barrier. It had been around for ten or twelve years at that point, plenty of time for Jake and the rest of the speds to post all kinds of personal shit that they shouldn't have.
