Trump had a way of wording things that would be interpreted in wildly different ways depending on a person's personal view. It was damn near a talent.
Anyone who looks at that statement and thinks "bribed by China" wasn't going to interpret any statement by Trump in a good faith manner.
That was why people liked Trump. He didn't spout bland, non-committal statements that had been focus tested til it meant nothing.
That was why he beat Hillary. She had an air of being manufactured. Biden has much the same problem but he is so gaffe prone that people feel more pity for him than disgust since the image is ruined.

Lawbreakers are being given a free pass into the country and tickets to areas that I would be willing to bet are going to naturally have problems with these people showing up. Anyone outside of the deluded leftist sphere would feel the same way if their towns had illegals dumped on them by an apathetic government. I guarantee you most of these are not going to sanctuary cities where they would be welcome. So they'll end up all over the place with people that have a legitimate gripe concerning their presence. And when some of these illegals are assaulted and maimed the media will play defense while the leftist Democrats use it as an excuse to further excise and "other" Americans that are trying to live their lives.
President Trump used to talk about an open border not being a "compassionate" thing. He would say that an open border policy would lead to exactly the opposite outcome that so-called altruistic leftists wanted to achieve. And once again he will have been right. This border policy is intentionally victimizing vulnerable illegal immigrants and giving them tickets to an assault somewhere in America and it is being done exclusively by politicians on the left that want to fabricate a crisis in order to see their agenda realized.
These leftists will never hesitate to use and abuse a vulnerable minority group in order to get what they want. I'm no fan of illegal immigration or illegals. But I don't want to see them get hurt or die in the desert or be detained in a room in a border city that is increasingly unhappy with their presence. That's not good for anyone, least of which is the illegals themselves.
So when someone comes along bitching about "it's not a real crisis!!!", you must not let them get away with their double-speak. The crisis is real, it is happening right now. But there is a component to the crisis that is fake and isn't real; and that component is the origin of this crisis, which did not need to come to pass but was constructed by people looking to once again exploit poor brown people for monetary and systemic gain.
They have no standards, no principles and they are always projecting.
And that doesn't even begin to get into the COVID aspect of this whole thing. That's another rant altogether. I don't give a fuck about these people having COVID and walking. That's cool with me. But I do give a fuck about these people having COVID and walking when the people letting them walk are once again treating illegal lawbreakers better than American citizens that pay taxes, support the country and who have had their rights stripped away to be locked in their houses as their jobs and businesses fail.

I feel like Hillary beat Hillary more than anyone tbf. Wikileaks showed she did in fact utilize her media connections to focus attention on Trump early on, thinking "aha, people will tune into the republicans and see this guy, no one will ever vote republican again!" Obviously and thankfully it backfired massively on her, largely because of the reasons you highlighted in your post. It's the same thing that got Carter elected tbh. People were so sick of the Washington establishment that a guy who talked and acted like an idiot was preferable to the other candidate. And that was Trump in a nutshell. Yes, he said some dumb shit. Yes he did a lot of dumb shit. Yes he offended pretty much everyone. But he was still preferable to, and less harmful than, another establishment candidate. And in 2016 no candidate within a mile of the ballot embodied the establishment more than Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Then she instructed her cronies to destroy evidence in the email inquiry which she likely would have been excused from anyway (unless the evidence was particularly damning which in her case should not be ruled out). That made it so that even if the reality turned out to be she was sending cute pictures of cats from a private email server rather than slipping out government secrets, people would still suspect her, simply because of the bungled-ass coverup attempts. Given the timing of everything, who knows, it may have been official emails to Epstein or it may have been her favorite Martha Stewart recipes, but the fact that she ordered a coverup of the evidence before it was known will always be known more than the results of the investigation at this point.
Then as if none of that was enough she got on camera and essentially said that at least a quarter of the population was deporable because of the candidate they supported who wasn't her. And in the middle of all that, before the real campaigning against Trump started, she pissed off half of what could have been her voting base by teaming up with the DNC to cuck Bernie and making it so obvious that even his dumbest-of-the-dumbass supporters took a break from screeching their demands for free everything to gripe about it and threaten not to vote Dem ever again. To be someone who so many, both friends and enemies, have called intelligent in a variety of meanings, Hillary Clinton really did fuck 2016 up for Hillary Clinton better than anyone else was even capable of imagining.
