General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

However, the important takeaway for me is that you can't force your hobby onto anyone. Force is a strong words but you get what I mean, vtuber and anime to an extend, while isn't more weird or outlandish than other hobbies out there, is still a niche and comes off as unorthodox to others and you can't make somebody get it. When talking to people who share your hobbies, you have a sense of how much you can talk and how far you can go without before it start to come off as spergy. On the contrary, when you're speaking to those who doesn't, you aren't even sure whether or not what you're talking about make sense to them in the first place. Even after @moments fade pain remains saved the thread (God bless you), he only convinced Null that vtuber isn't full of pedobaits that could endanger his site, not making him stop hating it in general. It is what it is.

TL;DR: Don't waste your time explaining yourself or forcing it on those who don't get your hobbies. Enjoy it with those who do. Just so you know, you guys are all faggots and I hate all of you, but you're my kind of faggots and I will defend to death your rights to post vtubers.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Here's the screenshot in question if you want to see more for yourself.
Except thats not the real problem. Even idiots will know that you cant force any hobby to everyone and one mans trash is anothers gold, whatever.

The problem is that the man in question has the absolute authority on this very site, The best we can do is to make him understanding on whats what. Whatever he will like it or not is his business alone, but DON'T fucking punish anyone who do, Jesus fucking christ. It's just incredibly unprofessional to punish anyone simply because "you like what I dont like" (without any illegal stuff to actually prove or being extensively discussed previously). Imagine if you got arrested or being kneeled on just because you like anime.

TLDR this is 1776, not 1984. Try to keep it as such.

I genuinely don't understand why anyone tries to explain shit to the drive by faggots that keep popping in to shit up the thread. Their questions are not legitimate and they honestly do not care. They're here to be a waste of space, don't give them a purpose. One of the basic rules of the internet..don't feed the trolls.

Trailer for Calli's EP is out. I know these are just previews of the songs but I was really kinda hoping that we'd get more of her Demondice sound in this EP. Save for the first track which does have obvious hints of the electro-swing stylings of Alcatraz, this EP seems like a mixed bag. Not necessarily a bad thing, I guess.

Another nice one, and it made me realize that I don’t think anyone has had quite as much of a character shift over their time on Hololive as Botan.
I remember her being hyped as a super-gamer and she had the sort of flirty/threatening thing going on with Watame... and now she’s just kind of turned into a lovable goober.

>What is wrong with you disgusting freaks

>Why are you mean to me I was just asking questions out of genuine curiosity to understand your hobby

I don't understand this pattern. I can't even call it trolling because trolls shouldn't backtrack. Maybe there should be a FAQ of some sort for the extremely low hanging fruit questions. I don't blame people who come in here asking wtf is going on because it is a weird and new niche thing but still. I think the bad rep comes from mostly ENVtuber degeneracy on twitter that is adjacent to lolcow circles and not even close to representative of the industry as a whole, which is dominated by corporate vtubers who are a different beast all together. The type of literally-who vtweeter that kiwifarmers might know gets 0-100 live viewers compared to the 10k live viewers that corporate vtubers get every day.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Here's some questions that get asked all the time:

>Are they all actually men with voice changers?
All the popular ones are the gender they portray themselves as. There are male and female vtubers. Female vtubers are generally more popular. Getting away with faking your gender is very difficult to achieve for long periods of time, even with an anime avatar. Viewers already knew the streamer known as Noracat was a fat dude before the infamous video "outed" him. Nobody was tricked.

Some men do use female avatars, but they don't try to hide anything. They're called babiniku.

>Are they all Japanese?
The biggest ones are Japanese but there are bilingual and exclusively English speaking ones too. There are also indonesian, russian, chinese speakers that have smaller audiences.

>Why are they all lolis
Most of the popular ones aren't.

>Are they all pretending to be your girlfriend?
Some are, some aren't. Parasocial relationships are just as common as normal streaming. Some companies implicitly maintain idol conventions like Hololive. Other companies don't care and let their streamers date openly. Independent streamers can do whatever they want.

>Why do they hide what they look like IRL?
It depends on the streamer. Maybe it's part of their brand. Maybe they're shy. Maybe they value their privacy. Maybe they have a face fit for radio. Some don't care at all whether people know what they look like IRL. Vtubing is just an intermediate step between streaming without a facecam and streaming with one.

>What do they actually do in streams?
Not that different from your average twitch streamer for most. Mainly talk to the viewers, play games, collab with each other. Many of the popular ones produce ancillary content like music videos, 3D streams (streams using 3d motion capture) and even live concerts. The most popular vtubers in Japan are basically celebrities at this point and do press releases, tv appearances and marketing promotions.

>Who watches this shit?
For the largest Japanese corporate vtubers, the viewer demographics are predominantly single men, 18-30. Some vtubers have a high proportion of female fans though. People watch this shit for a variety of reasons that are too long to list, but for the casual viewer, it's because vtubers put out long form content that can be consumed passively that is currently in demand thanks to the current pandemic accelerating the atomization of modern society. Either that, or "lol funni anime girl said the n word".
I'd argue them hiding their identities is part of the allure. I really don't want to know what they look like irl or what they do irl. People always argue you shouldn't pay attention to the actor, but it just doesn't work like that. I used to love the show House of Cards but when Kevin Spacey turned out to be a nonce it ruined it for me.

Btw, Noel really can eat an entire large pizza in one sitting and has K cups IRL.

I was out for 2 days and the pages move by 30. Not going to back read all that shit. Beside troll and Null, anything interesting happen? And are we getting nuke because the lord himself doesn't understand our hobby or not?

You're probably using this to show Vtubers gaining mainstream appeal, but a Jap comedian on a Jap TV show will probably fly over some heads, especially if they are already inclined towards hating Japan / animu.

This image might be more useful for anybody new to the thread. Pekora was the 4th most watched female streamer worldwide, and the 2nd most popular gaming streamer in Japan last year.

For a numbers comparison
Pekora started 2020 under 150k subs, had ~500k by August and reached ~1m at the end of the year.
Pokimane had around ~3m twitch followers and ~4m youtube subs at the start of the year (don't have exact numbers as playboard/socialblade graph don't show the start of the year). ~5.5m followers and subs by August, and ~6.5m of both by years end.

Youtube also reported that by October 2020 Vtubers had more more than 1.5 billion views per month.

I think Ina changed to the hunting horn.
