It's mostly the latter. People wanna see and support a proud tranny fighting the good fight. Nevermind it completely undermines their Marxist message if they're wealthier than most business owners and all they do is make YouTube videos talking about how the system is rigged against us. He's essentially giving a huge amount of young people exactly what they want even if it accomplishes nothing.

What shocks me most isn't the amount of people donating, it's the fact that the lowest tier that gets you anything is $5 every single month. What's the draw for donating?

I've spent a bit of time in Olly's home town, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. It is, or at least was, an orgiastic breeding ground for Champagne socialists. Disclaimer: I haven't been in a couple of years, but am reasonably familiar with the Newcastle of Olly's high school years.

It's a demographically weird place where extreme poverty sits right next to the appearance of wealth - a local newspaper reports >27% of children in poverty prior to Covid in Newcastle, which is the first city in the North East of England. For comparison, rural Appalachian Virginia is reported at 33% here. It's historically a Labour stronghold, and was one of the very few red wall seats that didn't go Conservative at the last General Election. It would be social suicide to be anything other than vocally pro-worker and pro-unions, so you end up with an awful lot of very comfortable people who are also unashamed members of the Socialist Workers' Party.

At the same time the overall population overwhelmingly skews white working class (or lower) compared to other UK cities, and at least in my experience, posh little boys wearing their private school blazers were regularly terrorized by chavs. Same for out of town students.

All of this is to say, I think Oliver grew up keenly aware of his privilege and is compensating for it in his adult life. Yep, I'm armchairing, not sorry. As I say, I don't know what it's like now, but he's an archetype of the posh Geordies I've met, with the exception that his insecurity is a little more visible.

Final strange aside, I met someone who as a young adult in the 21st century, received income from feudal tithes from the city. He was less posh than Olly.

I presume it's the same way furries will live in relative poverty in order to fund hundreds of dollars in artwork and thousands for suits. When you don't mind living in a shithole, never spending more on finer clothing, and eating fast food and ramen, those "fun bucks" accumulate.

I would understand if his main point of contention was things like access to surgeries through the NHS or something else that actually improves the lives of trannies, but how exactly does informed consent and self-ID help? If you're truly a whaman on the inside, is it really too much work to go to the doctor and get properly diagnosed? AFAIK Great Britain has transgender laws and you are able to change your sex legally without weird loopholes (for example in Poland you have to sue your own parents in civil court for misidentifying your sex to change your sex legally) after you mangle your genitals.
Why are trannies so obsessed with making sure there is absolutely no barrier to entry for transsexualism and anyone can do it on a whim instead of making sure the process is smooth yet able to catch the cases in which transsexualism doesn't apply? Doesn't that just strengthen TERF arguments about men wanting to abuse transsexual status?

Gender reassignment is a protected category under the equality act, you can't really get more equal rights than that
