General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

This all feels like when the principal of the school barge down the classroom and started yelling at a bunch of weirdos in a corner playing yugioh and started demanding how they are not worshipping satan with cartoon cards.
I'm in this picture and I hate it. Only, it was "Magic: The Gathering" cards and we were playing mostly black decks with "Lord of the Pit", Dark Ritual and Evil Presence.

That was always just rationalization on part of fan communities. Really, to me it sounded like the usual "Company becomes more mainstream and hence less fun", sanitizing all content now that they are successful (I mean that is more or less what Coco specifically said, "now that Hololive has grown so much" or stuff like that), and that especially if you consider Japanese management culture. It is not impossible that it was Youtube, but there wasn't really anything pointing that way, and "Japanese Middle Managment gonna Japanese Middle Managment" always made much more sense to me.

Japanese companies are typically very risk-averse. Time-stamped clip of the folks at Trash Taste podcast talking about working with Japanese sponsors that would even inquire for permissions for fucking screenshots:

So with that in mind and in Cover's case where they've already been bonked by Capcom and Nintendo before, you can see how they've dialed their risk-aversion to high-grade autism levels - especially now that they know they have millions more eyeballs tracking their every move, with a percentage of those watching eagerly waiting for their next fuck-up.

Guys, the conversation didn't take THAT long. Basically, I started the conversation about how this whole thing could have been handled better, he replied, I replied, I went home from work (took me like 30 minutes), saw that he replied asking for some clips, and then I spend some time to find the appropriate clips. Except from the first thing I wrote, there weren't any walls of text. I am not dipping into much details, because I do not know how much I can share, and I do not want to risk it. But, it's not like the conversation is something impressive. As I said, I was pessimistic at the time, and I did not start the discussion intending to save the thread. But the opportunity appeared and I took it.
Long story short, you knew which buttons to push and when. Comparing to myself, I would probably not know the right clips to show (I haven't watched Ame's L.A. Noire streams) and I would get upset very quickly and make the situation worse. Not to mention that most likely I would not even make an attempt to plead to Josh, as I did not expect him to change his mind on the matter and considered the thread gone for good.

tl;dr shut up and enjoy your medals

it's entertainment, and it shouldn't be necessary to explain why people enjoy entertainment
Vtubing adds some interactivity to the performance, for example: Kiara or Rushia can go off on a long tangents, reacting to superchats sent by viewers, or Korone or Gura will do something to tardwrangle the chat.
Also because of the animated avatar you have to create an image of the person behind it on your own, which plays into the parasocial aspect of vtubing: like me thinking Marine is in her mid thirties (and I wasn't the only one thinking this way). But as kuuu said: this is preaching to a choir, drivebyposters will still be gracing us with their presence from time to time.

Is this considered yab or nah?

no prune/10

also fuck that account shit, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to save my favorites locally and have that data to move it around.

cover might have been able to get google to take a look at it instead of hiding behind their retarded AI (and there's the rrat that someone higher up at google is a haaton) and figure out it's hardly "promoting self harm" and all the other crap, which was apparently the reason cover changed their policy in the first place. so that might still be in but depending on the case might get exceptions. or they made a deal with haachama so she can finish her arc before she graduates.

since I'm in a spoonfeeding mood today:

welcome to the abyss, enjoy your stay.
Oh I know what these mean. I've been in this vtuber hole for almost a year now. I just didn't know the context for the stand up comedy bit Coco and Kanata were doing.

In addition to Holos:
INDIE
Mimiko: Long Sword
Kurea: Horn

774
Patra: Horn
Anko: Bow (practice)
Kuku: Glaive

Nijisanji
Ratna Petit: Long Sword
Nari Yang: Dual Blades & Horn
Mao: Hammer
Amamya: Bow
No Charge Blade love anywhere :( how dare they treat my baby like that.

Makes sense though. It is a very high IQ weapon and I doubt most of them have watched enough Rick and Morty to be able to grasp the basics.

I don't know the breed, but the cat she got didn't trigger her allergies
There are certain cat breeds that are hypo-allergenic.

Local lady of culture shares a moment of camaraderie with overseas fans.
She had a fun english introduction stream courtesy of google translate.
"favorite drink = boy's milk"
Here I gotta mention that she is a shotacon.
I think people got cancelled for less.
I will never understand the Japanese obsession with shotas and lolis. Is it the fact that they're rare enough with the aging population and that they're not producing enough kids that they've resorted to incentivizing child-birth? Or is it just a really weird, niche thing that's amplified within Japanese weebo bubbles?

Given how ass backwards and unwieldy their whole socializing culture is, it might just be a side effect of their isolationism.

Quick look around tells me that people were against banning said mediums. Logic here being along the lines of having an outlet for their fetishes instead of making rape an actual problem. Crime statistics for that isn't readily available and can't say I care enough to investigate. It is what it is.

Also, some people are allergic to cat secretions, not fur, so even those naked breeds don't work.
They better cure cat allergies before they make genetically engineered cat girls.

Japan's obsession with youth is pretty well-known. For most people, it's a kind of yearning to be a child without responsibilities or duties (most Japanese consider high-school to be the point in life when you're the most free unless you go to university or something). For others it's the desire to go back to a time before you were crushed by the weight of rigid Japanese society. And then you add in Japan's obsession with all things cute and you get extra fuel for the yab flames.

One thing to keep in mind is that the old 1950s ideal of lifelong employment at a company still looms large in a lot of the culture. In the US and most of western europe, we generally view adults (even people well into middle age) changing jobs or even training for an entirely different career as a positive thing. In Japan, trying to start or change a career even in your late 20s is seen as kind of shameful and cringe (hence why so few Japanese mothers end up returning to work after their kids are old enough to look after themselves). I think this rigidity, this sense that your entire life trajectory is set in stone once you hit 20, intensifies this obsession with youth to a degree that's kind of hard to understand from the outside.

And also as @Biobreak said, the extremely-aged population makes children seem exotic in ways that are not always so wholesome.

This is why I believe Null missed out by hating anime adjacent media, the entire Japanese societal norms is a based big fat puzzle piece. We had almost the entirety of Hololive play a Switch game about "how autistic I am in social environment". Compared to other Asian countries, they manage to make high functioning autism positively contributes to the country and at the same time fail to understand memes.

Just think about how many lolcows we will never ever know about because of the language barrier. Stuff like the Denko saga.

Ina bringing out the ASMR mic properly for the first time on her drawing Sunday stream. I think someone said about it here in her schedule but she just mentioned it now.

EDIT: As far as ASMR streams go that was certainly different now. Was super chill just listening to tablet drawing noises and soft spoken words.

So it really is a ASMR stream after all. She's using a binaural mic I think and taped a paper to her tablet so it makes scratching noises as she draws.

Also, hey @Takodachi , since you are the resident Ina expert here, is Ina really gonna play a game called Rakugaki? Or is this the ASMR stream? (looking by the initials)

Winner winner @ice_cream_cone

She's going to flip the voltage switch on the power supply because higher is better.
The safest bet is that she got the same PC that Ame has aka the NZXT creators build a overpriced case that people buy because is the only way to get a 3XXX, unless she does something uber stupid like throwing water inside of the PC nothing weird is going to happen and she only has to pass her files to the new pc
