I think Vinny is actually one of the few people I follow online who, without being a degenerate weeb, has at least enough knowledge of the Japanese language to pretty much nail pronunciations every time without stumbling.

Also like, what does it matter? The Akira dub is (mostly) good, and there's only like 3 game series in the world where the Japanese VA is notably better than the English VA, and Vinny has played none of them. Man speaks English, he plays games in English. Seems normal to me.

Generally, think it's good for creators to keep at least some kind of personal barrier from fans, or else you'd end up getting a bunch of (frankly disturbing) art and fanfic from thirsty fans who can't keep reasonable boundaries with celebrities.

And yet he lambasted himself for not saying "dango" like a native Japanese person would when Ross told him the Japanese pronunciation. Let's not give the English major too much credit in this field!

If I recall correctly, he said that in his area growing up anime wasn't cool. It's because of this stigma that, by default, Vinny is still uncomfortable with anything "anime" and is biased against it.

So I wouldn't say he "hates" the language, but does it make him squirm a little? Yes.

There’s this weird secondary fanbase developing for Joel recently. You know how neo-SJW furries gravitate around Vinny? I keep seeing weird ass people on discord (the metalocalypse server i’ve mentioned) that have profile pics of Joel and somehow both acting like SJWs and bad 4chan trolls. Same fuckers who made fun of someone for not liking that the entire server would say “nigga” over and over but wrote 3 paragraphs about how people need to draw Joel as fat.

I think it's just a grift and that likely he has watched plenty of anome, he just needed to distance himself from it since he was on 4chan when vinesauce started, and frankly they were pretty gross with it, way too much loli crap to not draw a line. At his age and how a lot of his favorite games have HIGH anime flavor there is no way hes actually that offended by the stuff.

But now he's in the position where he can drop a "is that a joseph" and have chat spaz out for free because he Said An Anime, just like last night all he had to do is say one word for chat to go full chat:
