Here's an article from 2019 in Police Magazine about positional asphyxia. I'll quote a pretty solid highlight, as what they're in is NOT the recovery position there.

Mitigating the Risk

In order to ensure the safety and to minimize the risk of positional asphyxia resulting in an in-custody death, law enforcement officers should learn to recognize contributing factors and conditions that contribute to positional asphyxia.

1. When feasible, officers should avoid the use of prone restraint techniques.

2. Learn and follow department guidelines and policy for situations involving physical restraint of individuals.

3. Once the suspect is handcuffed, get them off the face-down position.

4. Inquire about the recent use of drugs or if the subject has a cardiac condition or any respiratory conditions or diseases.

5. Have someone monitor the subject.

6. Obtain medical evaluation and treatment if needed.

7. Pass on any information about drug or alcohol use and medical conditions to the personnel at the detention facility where the subject will be incarcerated.

Basics -

Prosecution is essentially saying that Chauvin's actions were negligent, and he refused to move or change his position when bystanders and even another officer was pointing out that Floyd had stopped breathing. They're presenting ways Chauvin can be responsible directly for his death as well, such as positional asphyxia, or a 'blood choke' (same thing really).

Defense is saying that Floyd OD'd and Chauvin did nothing wrong, he (Floyd) was faking not being able to breathe. Floyd took pills he didn't know the contents of, and that's what killed him and Chauvin isn't responsible or contributed in any way towards his death.

Standard stuff really.

I'm of the view a person who leaves is one less person feeding the machine. No different then a boycott. If they choose to confront this mad circus by walking out then more power to them.

Not to mention that its not like there are dozens of countries that are not either already a shithole, or 5-10 years away from becoming a shithole. Hell, even the chinks are in for a wild ride when their population age-distribution starts to go belly up like it does in the west. And if i had to pick a shit-hit-the-fan country, then that would be the US, semi-rural, in a state with pro 2A laws and few undesirables.
Especially since whomever is left afterwards gets to have a historically huge influence on how society is rebuilt.
Also, being a foreigner is probably not the best idea if you want to get through bad times in any place. Rural areas should be the safest place in such a scenario, except for people who dont speak the local language and thus rely on the welcoming nature of city-dwellers.

That being said, i can understand the desire to run away from all this chaos. Its just that that wont work if the problem is global.

I never said anything about "feeding the machine", I'm saying it's better to disrupt and sabotage than simply run away.

Well, sometimes you need to do things differently in order to save yourself and make sure that you aren't in a grave 6 feet under.

In most people, blood chokes only make you pass out. If the prosecution keeps pushing this, they can just bring up Floyd's conditions, which will just prove the defense's case about the drugs being the thing that killed him, if his system was already frail to start with.
