"The group" is not the group, demographic shift tells the whole story. The look of the people pushing for Trump in 2016 was a younger 20-30, policy-focused, pretty brutally anti-establishment even in areas that don't make much sense- all a lot like what's happening on the left right now.
These surreal clown people who cropped up as Trump lost support from that policywog base are in aggregate 50-60 year old boomers, who attempt to parrot the 2016 Trump narratives without demonstrating any real understanding of any of them, got taken in by Qposting, and mixed it with schizo Evangelical fetishes like antivax, cop worship, and trutherism. What few younger people seem to be left have taken up shephard roles leading the old lunatics around and making bank off of it.

A very visible example of this is that these weird clown boomer people chased what was left of the younger demographic off of crypto-8chan's reanimated corpse by being that obnoxious and out of touch. Too "extreme" for anons.
It's like FOMO mixed with midlife crises and a prolonged bad trip, and I hate every bit of it.

Hopefully this trial and the lack of apocalypse that follows will wake some of them up. With certain talking heads on the left screeching "this is only the beginning" despite a lack of popular support for reforming a justice system that did its job right, very publicly, mere hours before, I don't feel very confident.

Edit: Just so these claims aren't completely off the cuff, here's an exit survey. Because Democrat votes are interpolated it can be a bit tough to interpret. Essentially, Trump lost bigly on age category 18-29, which was overrepresented by a shitton of male college grads, while gaining some voters between ages 30-44. This is the kind of shit I mean, not specific instances of this internet stranger or that internet stranger claiming to totally be a 24 year old hwite male, and not a 40+ year old hispanic nationalist larper with a hobby.
