Honestly, the AZ vaccine is a third the cost of the Pfizer vaccine, doesn't require being kept at super-subzero temperatures and AZ allowed it to be manufactured in non-Western countries like India.

I'm pretty skeptical about the vaccines in general given how rushed all of them are, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn Pfizer, Moderna and / or Johnson and Johnson are trying to smear the AZ one. Pfizer is making $15bn this year alone from their vaccine. And vastly more if they can get governments to mandate it as a regular thing. Whilst AZ has been distributing their vaccine at cost.

I remember that our head Branch Covidian was also demanding that we should now vaccinate as much as possible with at least a first dose of Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna. I do suspect that Astra Zeneca is being targeted for some reason, with lots of weird politics going on. First Astra Zeneca promised x million doses for the EU, then said they couldn't deliver them on time, then a warehouse in Italy is found with y million doses intended not for sale in the EU, and so on and so forth.
Maybe someone pissed off someone else...

Or so the news said today. They're comparing the survivability of vaccinated and unvaccinated members of those age groups. The statistics are so wonky I'm getting an aneurysm just thinking about it.
So we have a disease that around here already only affected a few hundred in the age bracket 10-19, and killed only three. That's a death rate of 0.2%. Unvaccinated. Somehow, a 100% success rate with zero deaths in an age group where probably none have died in weeks anyway is somehow news-worthy, and somehow these people can actually push out such "news" without having to commit sodoku out of shame afterwards.

I ventured back to somethingawful for the first time in a few years to check out the coronathread. A lot of people casually mentioning they haven't left their house in 8 months, struggle sessions for people who admitted they went to a restaurant last week, cursing antivaxxers, people tearfully spilling their purses about how guilty they feel when they do their biweekly shopping trip (double masked of course), and orgasming over how good the shot feels.

They had a bitch fight over censorship involving a pedo admin. The head mod has caved and handed the entire sub over, the mod team has promised to be more open to actual discussion.

TLDR they've decided to switch off the bots for now and people are being allowed to post their actual opinions. We'll see if it lasts.

The vaccines do some immunity and does make you less contagious if you still do catch it, which is probably part of why cases have so sharply decreased these past months (alongside the "discovery" right after Orange Man left office that we were doing testing wrong).

I think that has more to do with the totally coincidental and totally not the culprit of the "spread" PCR cycles being cut down. It's just curious that they change that one factor that "conspiracy theorists" have been saying makes the case number useless in time for the Biden victory lap.
