I work in law in a big American city. It's widely known (but not talked about much) that black judges and attorneys are the most brutal to black defendants. A white judge will give a guy his 6th chance, a black judge won't, especially black women judges.

I can do it for you. The prosecution knows they are fucked for proving Chauvin is the one who did Floyd in. The coroner report is damning. So they are appealing to emotion, trying to overload the jury with feels.


The problem is their witnesses aren't... really good.

I saw a clip on ABC yesterday where one of the presenters was saying "That's why it's so important that the jury was asked questions like 'what is your opinion of the BLM movement?' and other similar questions at selection," leading me to believe that in fact, no, the jury will probably not be unbiased.

Imagine this being the 20th century, and the trial was about the death of a Black man and the jury is asked their opinion on the KKK.

Honestly, the SJWs should be satisfied that this absolute farce of a trial may act as a catalyst for revision of restraint guidelines, because that would at least potentially save a few lives down the line if speedballing and consequently being a volatile criminal idiot becomes trendy

As pointed out earlier upthread, there is no restraint method that is zero-risk. All a restraint policy can try to do is minimize risk, but only in the context of balancing that risk between the parties involved.

Every restraint technique is a trade-off, strong restraints make sure the officers and bystanders are safe but may present risk to the suspect. Very loose restraints may be lower risk for the suspect, but less effective and allow for harm to come to officers or bystanders or even the suspect. Remember that suspects may be trying to harm themselves or others, and human restraint is challenging in any circumstance, particularly in one on one encounters.

Historically, the restraint question has been resolved in favor of presenting less risk to the officers and bystanders. The logic being that the suspect, by trying to inflict harm or noncompliance with commands to get in the squad car has created the situation requiring restraint and thus accepts the higher level of risk in it's resolution. Shifting that burden creates a higher risk for potential harm to uninvolved bystanders and police.

Consider also that if police are barred from using physical body restraints, or feel that the restraint allowed would not be effective or practical then the only option police will have is to use their weapon belt. They may be put in a position where they have to use their Taser or their pistol to neutralize the suspect's potential to cause harm. Ironically, removing physical restraint options to minimize harm may lead to a higher frequency of fatal encounters.

I never said that everyone in America is viewing Twitter. I said the internet is the largest part of people's lives. I also pointed out that 50% of Americans get their news from TV, and TV news is controlled by people obsessed with Twitter, going so far as to use Twitter as a primary source for their stories. Online news also does this, but every other media has a legitimizing effect on social media platforms. This isn't even really debatable, people complain about how blatant it is all the time.
