Why the need for such serious restraint once he was already in hand cuffs? Its obviously a question asked a million times but what was the good answer? Why seriously restrain a person on the verge of a heart attack?
nobody knew he was coked up and whatnot other than him and his friends, as he never said anything. He was also quite uncooperative and being a cock when he was put in the car. I can see why they would want him restrained properly, plus he's in the road and they probably didn't want him rolling into traffic. That said I don't see why it was necessary, but then again I'm also not a trained cop.

That literally never gets determined, or even argued, in court. The verdict of "not guilty" does not mean "innocent". It merely means the defendant could not be proven guilty of a crime beyond all reasonable doubt.

Totally accurate. I hope the prosecution is well prepared for sure. I hope they go after the correct motive. I doubt Chauvin will just up and walk out of there.

Then again he has sympathy. If someone coughed up his $1.25 million bond. Almost surprised he has not fled to Indonesia on a boat. I would have. If he a dollar left in his pension I would have taken off to some remote location in the Indian Ocean.

For every cop that saves someones life there is a bad cop who without reserve fucking kills someone and gives that good cop a bad name and a reason to sleep with their eyes open.
That's retarded.

If you actually bothered to look up the facts, studies, statistics and so on, you would not only realize that the media overblows the negative interactions between the police and the public, but you would learn that less than .5% of nonviolent offenders end up being killed by police.

But yes, "cops bad lol"

I'll be honest and say that your consideration does surprise me, but I hope you understand that this thread has been pretty light on nuance so far. I'm wholly unqualified to make any legal judgements on questions of guilt or culpability, so we'll leave that to the esqperts. What sort of punitive action would you have in mind for Chauvin? Keep in mind he was fired a day after Floyd's death.

I view the police as a state-sanctioned gang with a monopoly on violence who make their communities less safe due to their antagonistic "us vs them" attitude that stems from our military-to-police pipeline. The people who literally pay their salaries via tax dollars become enemy combatants overnight due to some thin blue line.

Unfortunately the Chauvin trial has become somewhat of a referendum on that position rather than a legal assessment of the facts. The bloodthirsty lunatics on "my side" like Chelsea Handler who flippantly disregard due process in favor of a witch hunt do nothing to reduce the amount of police violence.

tl;dr I agree with you
Retraining, suspended without pay for the duration, and a review of city guidelines for appropriate force. Chauvin did not act well, the hold was utterly unnecessary. While it is true that criminals will make shit up to run, that is no excuse for escalating the situation past the point of reasonable force for a non-violent crime. Yet, it also cannot be pretended to be entirely Chauvin's fault as he was obeying the guidelines as presented.

It's a mixture of a bad choice in the moment, bad guidelines, and failure to use appropriate force for the context.

The knee that was so gently applied that it didn't leave any bruising and the prosecution isn't claiming harmed Floyd?
No. Why are you asking about something entirely irrelevant and not answering my question?

Wait what the fuck are they claiming if it WASN'T the knee that smothered this dude or whatever.

Isn't the knee the entire god damn point?

Lol not at all what I said

I seriously do not see how an ambulance taking over 45 minutes to arrive was "of highest urgency."

But for the sake of argument is Chauvin entirely innocent because George Floyd was high and should have used a knee to hold him down in handcuffs while unconscious beyond 10 minutes after he appeared lifeless? Why did the cops not check his pulse? Police are trained in CPR as well and being law enforcers they are trained in the law like for example code of conduct like for example using a knee on someones neck to hold them down is a banned tactic.

So is Chauvin 100% innocent? No. But since everyone disagrees with me so much what is Chauvin guilty of? It cannot be nothing. This is not going to go to mistrail that is for sure.

why cant he be guilty of nothing?

I find only criminals and criminal sympathizers think this way, the vast majority of the time the police are called into a situation; they're not jumping out of the fucking bushes. I saw one video where a black kid was shot after he opened fire on police, and the only reason they were there was because he was beating his girlfriend and she called them. This happens all the time, every bodycam video of some shit gone wrong was because someone made a call, and that very person is often at the start of the video.
The over-policing during the crack epidemic? Most of it was cheered on by moms, grandmothers, and concerned residents at the time because it wasn't the cops shooting up their neighborhoods. Your worldview seems exclusively informed by pitiful lies often told by criminals themselves. Hey, did you also know that 100% of people in prison are innocent?

They are arguing positional asphyxia, his gut compressed his diaphragm causing him to be unable to draw in a breath, that could be caused or aggravated by someone applying pressure on his torso, but not his neck.

The knee is just to evoke emotion.

If you're the prosecuting attorney, sure.

If you're the coroner, not at all.

Oh I misread and thought you meant the prosecuting attorney wasn't claiming the knee killed him.

Unsure how you even argue past the coroner but I refuse to let this shitshow enter my daily space besides reading here sometimes.

"We think the cop killed him"
"The coroners report said it wasn't him at all"
[The trial goes for six more weeks and half the country burns down]

They made some vague noises in their opening statements then just abandoned the point so far. They might try to bring it up, but the official autopsy says definitively no. And even their store bought autopsies only make vague noises that don't quite prove it without a lot of stretching.

Uhh..

Because he was acting erratic and destroying (eating) evidence

Unless you have knowledge that says that the call to the ambulance wasn't tier 3 or whatever the term is, then it took that long.

It was in the police training manual and videos and 15 minute neck holds where found to not be excessive in Minnesota court in 2019 I think.

Of the charges brought it this case, yes

I must have missed the part of Police Training where they're given the telepathic powers to know when some overweight drugged out of his mind pavement ape is about to have a heart attack.

I must also have missed where a beat cop has any power to teleport an ambulance to the local scene.

Did he ask for the knee?

Do you often ask criminals how they would like to be arrested? What kind of retarded reddit tier shit is this?
