Wikia / FANDOM - The ugly result of giving aspies control of their own wiki websites

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
"V of Doom": High to Nightmare
"Nelvana": Low to Medium

...guys. Guys. Viacom has a "V" coming at you. Nelvana has A MOTHERFUCKING BEAR coming at you. You should see a psychologist, because your priorities are a bit funny.

Oh but I find super solace in the fact that it's just a goddamn C program. I'm a programmer. Programs cannot hurt me. /sorrykindadrunk

The bear is a living, breathing thing that could probably hurt you but it isn't strange or foreign. On the other hand, the V is sort of monolithic and authoritarian. Imagine being a kid and watching TV in the dark and being presented with these logos that don't actually "mean" anything to you and you're trying to figure out what the TV is trying to tell you when they show you this:

hqdefault.jpg

It's less scary in a "I'm gonna die" sort of way and more in a "Why are aliens trying to contact me?" kind of way. I actually remember being so afraid of logos as kid that when I look back and think about it, if I hadn't gotten over the phobia, I'd probably be going down the same autistic road as these wikia dudes.

Under the V of Doom

It will frighten the jeepers out of you and give you nightmares. Word to the wise: DO NOT WATCH AT NIGHTTIME.

There's no way this is made by an adult and if it is I really really hope it isn't real

You must not abuse my little pony if you go on this website or you are blocked. (AIMED AT CONTRIBUTORS AND DO NOT DELETE THIS MESSAGE OR YOU GO TO THE PS2 RSOD!)

At least one of the editors is about 16. That's still a bit old to be doing stuff like this. I sure wasn't when I was 16.

The worst thing about any Wiki is when the article you're reading is obviously a fly-by-night job that extends to only three sentences and has no insight worth suffering through a marsh of poor grammar to obtain.

You have the easiest hobby in the world, you lazy cunt.

The only thing worse than that is when a bunch of articles rely upon and heavily reference crucial articles that don't actually exist.

These guys are nothing. So there's this one wiki devoted to following some weirdo that drew some shitty Sonic fan comic. Sonichu, I think it was. They seriously called themselves the CWCki. Like "quickie." So autistic. They had a forum but it got taken down. Now it just redirects to some shit about Kiwis.

*ahem*

So, this might be a bit of a power level sperg, but hell, I doubt it'll amount to anything. So, I would like to announce that you are looking at one of the former administrators of the Halo Machinima Wikia.

Hold your applause. I know it's such a prestigious position. :story:

So, yeah, the wikias. You wanna know how I ended up becoming an admin? I wrote up two detailed articles on Machinima I liked and got some message offering me adminship. ... Seriously. On small wikias, it is shockingly easy for a single person or a small group of people to easily take power by simply WRITING shit. Just make it look somewhat professional and you'll have people lauding you as some genius that should take over.

So, um, from what I can remember being an admin from these weird little wikis:

Unless you force quality control, there will be shit

So, I became an admin when I was, like, 14, and I had much better things to do with my life like be addicted to Halo and sperg over some blonde puppeteer girl on the Internet so basically nothing has changed but the point is that I didn't employ a moderator staff nor did I rigorously check any new articles that would pop up. To any Kiwi vets, imagine... the Entersphere forum started by Nayolfa.

... Yes, that bad.

More popular wikis like the Halo, Final Fantasy, etc. ones have moderation staffs that actually check to make sure articles are up to some standard and delete miscellaneous shit that doesn't belong, but if you have an admin that doesn't give a fuck and no mods to pick up the slack, it goes downhill really fast.

There's probably only a few people or a small group actually writing any of these things

Kinda obvious, but I feel this needs mentioning. Of all the articles that actually had SOME substantial quality on the wiki, I wrote about a quarter of them entirely. While there might be a bunch of autistic spastics that actually are interested in this type of boring, trivial shit, there's only a small few of those that are actually motivated enough to write something, let alone something DECENT. I can guarantee that if you looked at the edit history of a couple of the larger articles on the fringe wiki, you will see the same names coming up.

If a fringe wikia has a lot of articles, chances are 80% of the articles are a paragraph or two long

Because people are lazy. I remember completely writing up articles from the ground up because they were, like, two meaningless paragraphs that weren't even in any structured format. Again, only a couple of people actually write anything that requires effort.

Impartial Tone is an alien concept

I was 13 when I started getting into the wiki shit. That should give you a roughly good idea of the maturity range of the people writing these articles. You'll get shit like "AND HE WAS HIS OWN CREATOR!!" and "X is a really fucking stupid person" that would get you manhandled if you tried putting it up on Wikipedia.

Ironically enough, I forgot how nostalgic this made me. I might try logging back on and seeing if anyone ever stripped those admin features. I was only afk for... roughly 7+ years?

All this, Wikis tend to be a no-man's land where you can write whatever, whenever and go unchallenged forever. It's like a forum that's been abandoned, you can vandalize it as much as you want.

Whoever was responsible to design the Scary Logo wikia gave no single thought to the design, without highlighting all text i can't read shit
Why is that lots of weirdos have basically no idea how to make layouts for their websites or whatsoever readable?

Anyway, Logos / Idents never scared me off and i was scared of lots weird stuff, even if there was one that always threw me off when i watched VHS and im trying to find it on youtube right now. I always enjoyed the THX ident in cinemas for some reason.

The Tominator777 in the 2nd World Wiki

This is, I believe, a Wiki created by an Entersphere sperg about...himself, maybe? I don't know, to be honest. The rule list is really redundant, too. Here are some highlights from it:
Rule List said:
  • Censor Certain offensive Words (i.e. Slurs, Words Relating to Certain controversial stuff like R*pe, Etc..)
  • Censor any offensive word (except for swearing with the exception being F*ck) in the pictures.
  • you can cuss in the chat room without censors.
  • You don't Need to censor Swear words, Just Don't Direct it at Other Users.
  • you can Curse Without the Censor but Directing it at Other Users are not allowed.
They've also got a lot of articles about people whom I'm assuming are friends with the person who created the wiki, as well as a fair amount of Spongebob-related stuff. Typical Entersphere autism.

Although the content is terrible at least it has good anime girl pictures

Oi, @MehicTUH_92, get in here.

False alarm, Mehic. No Saya fucking. :|

The one thing I've never really gotten is fanon wikis. I know there's been a topic on it already, but... seriously now... if you want to write fanfiction so badly, why don't you just write fanfiction?

Funny you mention fanon. Behold: Fanonia SpongeBobia
They've got an article on Bart Simpson. Here's a sample from it:
The Bart Simpson article said:
He and his family crash land in Lego City where they meet SpongeBob and stay at his apartment until they get their car fixed. For a short amount of time he is a student at SpongeBob's school to still stay eduacted while on vacation.
That sounds like something a child playing with his toys would come up with.

"And then He-Man and Spongebob teamed up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and beat Mumm-Ra and Cobra Commander and destroyed their giant ray gun made of Legos. And then they all came over to my house to have pizza and tell me how awesome I am."

1) SpongeBob is a sea creature. It has been established several times he will die without water. Unless David Hasselhoff is involved.

2) You would not use "crash land" to describe a car crash.

3) SpongeBob does not have the intellectual capacity to preside over a school.

4) SpongeBob is old enough to not go to school.

5) SpongeBob does not live in an apartment.

6) Bart gives two shits about education.

7) I've seriously went through and dissected why a fanon entry combining three different franchises was completely and utterly stupid. I'm not sure if this makes me even more autistic than them. (:_(

I have difficulty with constructing narratives and I would assume that other people with autism do so also
this would mean that it would be easier to write in an encyclopedic fashion for many autists rather than to simply write in a conventional narrative form
