Stalin just purged all the scientists until he had a bunch of yes-men who told him what he wanted to hear.
If you were a scientist in the USSR, you could be jailed or even killed if you answer a question by the politiburo wrong.
This is much different from the modern USA, where I will simply lose my job if I say that climate change is not the reason sea turtle populations are declining.

Physics, chemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, computer science, rocketry, and mathematics are all extremely based and require rigorous discipline. Social sciences, psychology, gender studies, and pop philosophy are not, and do not, and many of their results are impossible to replicate.
When people say "it's just science, accept the science and move on", they're actually being anti-science. Science is a technique for obtaining information with practical uses, not a means of divining absolute, infallible truths and turning them into dogmas. In fact, basically everything in science is entirely mutable and can be always overridden by new evidence.
There is no such thing as "settled science". If someone came up with a mathematically valid disproof for relativity tomorrow, it would have to be investigated to search for contradictions with all the other evidence.
No science means no smartphones, no laptops, no game consoles, no internet, nothing. Every aspect of semiconductor manufacture requires science and engineering. Modern laser photolithography pushes the limits of physics to the point of almost being black magic.

It's not just socialists, it's anyone who thinks that science has moral component and therefore scientific facts alone can be used as a justification for a certain policy.
Here's an example: we know that niggers commit over 50% of all violent crimes in the US despite being only 13% of the population. What policy should we implement to fix this problem? Depending on our morals, it may vary from DEM GIBS to PHYSICAL REMOVAL. In the end, science is only used as a shield for our moral argument.

Everyone is "big on science" when it helps them.
But look at the outcomes, look at what the soviets made from hydrofoils to helicopters to the first satellite in orbit.
The Ussr was big on pushing these things as a show of their power and ability as a nation.
My question is what exactly has the "american left" really given to science. What things do they want to be done as a show a grand power? The green new deal? Gender theory?

I think phrenology has a really undeserved bad reputation, really. As I understand it amounted to saying that different parts of the brain do different things, a bigger chunk would mean dimples in the skull (like the skull forms around the brain), and so you can read a personality off of that.
The wrong assumption was the part about the brain shape and skull connection, but the underlying assumption that brain parts govern specific functions of thought was 100% correct and basically evolved into neuroscience, just like alchemy evolved into chemistry. Phrenology should be viewed as a forerunner to modern brain science, not some crank thing that got in the way of it.

Science in theory could create a utopia, the trouble is human nature simply ain't fucking rational, so it's either going to tear us down before we could get far enough to accommodate for it or it would have to literally remove free will from the human mind to create a utopia, which I don't think is a fair trade off.
There's nothing wrong with science itself as a concept and I think the backlash to it because of "I fucking wuv da science!" Soyboys is fucking lame and overrated, as irritating as the soy'd out can be.
Science is still pretty cool you guys, but to truly think scientifically is to realize how little we actually know and accept the possibility of the spiritual and beyond, to think we already have most of the answers is ironically not a scientific way to think at all and sadly that mentality has hijacked science.
What does it say about me that I love da science, but also not only believe in God, but also seriously consider it possible that all the gods from human Religions are real as well? Imagine what a 2006 era atheist would think if they learned that not only is God real, so are all the other gods too.
It's a wild world we live in, we probably can't even begin to imagine how deep the rabbit hole goes.
