General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

They can't avoid the politics forever. In some way, I'm looking forward to it. Inevitaby HoloEN will have to comment on BLM/trans rights and so on. Any way you look at it its going to be funny. Either the rage when they denounce the causes, or (far more likely) the rage here when they express unreserved support for them.
The guillotine blade hanging over their heads is the Japanese vtuber culture and community, who they desperately want to get in good with, is VERY opposed to getting into controversial subjects. They're not going to rock the boat as long as there's much to be gained by staying still and going with the flow. They've already dodged many times when pressured to comment on things and avoided specifics, preferring to stick to vague "kumbaya around the campfire" types of feel good platitudes; there's no reason they can't keep that up indefinitely.

I dunno if that would go against their rules, if they start to comment on politics it will just cause division in the fanbase and will be nothing but trouble.

Oh, well this one is an interesting blip on the radar.
I know people talk about some of the more crazy stuff that happens in this game, but at it's heart it's steeped in the depressing tale of what happened to the modern American Rustbelt. I'll be interested to see what Polka thinks of this game, and see if other Holos end up playing.
I was about to post this.
Didn’t think about when the first “news” about the game being ok for them to play, but I’m kinda of excited to see polka playing. From all the JPs, I think she’s the more sensitive for this kinda of game.

I’m probably being too naive here but, if this ever happens, I find hard to believe that the fanbase will react that harshly.

Polka taking the duty of testing games for their sempais and kouhais, she has to be reminded that she is not GPB

Edit: chicken roommate is sperging about the handmaid tale, just great also she adopted a Polar bear

Sure they'll try to avoid it, but take the example of Wells Fargo, who is facing a shareholder vote to run a "diversity audit" on their company that they are desperately trying to fight off. These politics are mainstream and affect large businesses. Cover may be a Japanese company, but they're going to struggle to operate in the US without ever commenting on the issue. We've already seen some indication that they're conscious of it with their "gender not relevant" job postings.

It may also be sprung upon them in a situation where a non-answer is considered an answer. Example; doing a radio show interview and someone asks them "do you think black lives matter?". Any answer other than "yes", is going to cause controversy. They can of course bar the girls from talking to anyone who isn't thoroughly vetted and willing to play ball, but that is going to limit their growth.

I’m probably being too naive here but, if this ever happens, I find hard to believe that the fanbase will react that harshly.

I don't think the controversy will be "destructive" to the hobby, but people will get angrier than they need to over it. We already *know* how Kiara feels about BLM for example.

As amusing as it can be to bait people, you can get better material than that, ALTE. Japanese companies with an overseas presence like Nintendo have a far more vast and autistic audience than Cover could ever attain, and still managed without needing to give political hot takes (and before you mention Sony, that's the corporation's own fault for letting their branch in California run rampant like it did).

On another note, I just finished Like A Dragon and loved it to bits. Gonna tide myself over with Coco's first playthrough involving the game's particularly juicy stuff, would have loved to see the other girls' reactions if they're allowed to stream their playthroughs past their sponsored time limit.

They managed to get through 2020 without even talking about it when it was at it's most toxic and polarizing and when mostly everyone who would've sperged about it already did. We saw it in the vtubing circles with indie dumbfucks breaking kayfabe and even doing face-reveals. If it didn't happen last year, it's not gonna happen this year, especially with the left mostly placated with the orange boogeyman no longer looming large.

Who needs drive-by faggotry from tourists when we have our own resident faggot trying to bait shit over here every now and then.

They can and they will, or the next choice is being graduated so fast that would not even have time to mourn

Nintendo said clearly that their games have to be fun and not political, starting a meltdown that lasted 24 hours because they still have to consoom product

As far as I've noticed, Zen is the only one who's gone full sped on social media, while the rest wisely keep their mouths shut on sociopolitical niggerfaggotry, at least on their Vtuber accounts. Also to the gecko's credit they've been very up front about promoting charitable causes, including a donation drive where the community went out of their way to dunk on the conservative estimate for a goal.

TL;DR: Zen's still a kneejerk sperg, but one who puts their money where their mouth is.
I'm loathe to admit it, but VShojo does put up, so it makes it a bit difficult for me to continue hating them as much as I did. Granted, I still don't like anyone in VShojo, but all that matters is what they're doing ultimately works for them.

VShojo fans are some real faggots though. Seems like they go to any and every vtuber just to spout the same "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF [VShojo talent]?" and "VSHOJO IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN HOLOLIVE, THEY FEEL REAL" lines over and over.

Nah. Even Keeki is STFU when it comes to trendy politics today. I thought she would sperg about orange man bad for the US border crisis (estimate will hit 40 millions at this rate of illegal immigrants) or how some hardliners in EU are about to “either assimilate or go home” or West Taiwan “created” jobs and introduce “reproduction health care” for minority Muslims Pekora-style etc.
This clearly show that we have more clout chasers attention seekers than actual activists. Now Keeki is tasting the sweet capitalism money, she would just shut up on both side else she would get canceled push back.
If money can’t solve problems then a lot of money sure do. In the end, money makes the world goes round.

I think you're proving my point about how angry people would get if they did say something political, and how funny it would be. Are you so humorless you don't want to see a meltdown?

No one is saying cover wants anything to do with politics, but I do think that attitude is unsustainable. H&M probably didn't want to say anything about xinjiang, but they had to. Cover has already had a run in with it in taiwan, with the extra paragraph about one taiwan being added to their announcement. People are never going to stop trying to get them to comment on politics, and eventually someone will make a mistake. The questions then are "who, over what, and what is the fallout?"

like Hololive isnt as real as VSmutjo
Not according to VShojofags. According to them, Hololive is practically Christian broadcast television and too "corporate" feeling compared to VShojo, because talking about sex and cursing is apparently more "real" to coomers than having more interesting and relatable facets to your personality that don't just tend to revolve around those two things.

Coincidentally enough, most of the ones I've seen also admit that they don't really watch Hololive either. Usually because "it's all in Japanese and I can't understand Japanese". Really makes you think.

Cover may be a Japanese company, but they're going to struggle to operate in the US without ever commenting on the issue. We've already seen some indication that they're conscious of it with their "gender not relevant" job postings.
You know, your whole argument really falls apart on itself when you realize that "Hololive English" does not equate to "Hololive USA", right?

Just because dumb burgers have carte blanche to spout their self-righteous social justice mentality as loud as they possibly can on the internet doesn't mean it's going to completely affect Hololive's outreach to an English audience.

If you don't watch the live streams, then all you'll get is clips, which varies in quality and how well it shows off the vtuber in question.

The only person they have who isn't in some way connected to North America is Kiara, so it might as well be "hololive USA", and a significant percentage of the remaining english speaking audience in the UK and EU have similar political bents. Let's not pretend the US is the only country with this kind of activism and a strong online presence. The japanese can probably tolerate it longer than most would because they care far more about the domestic audience and wouldn't be completely devastated if they had to give up the overseas market.

Here are some scenarios I could see forcing some kind of response from cover:
- Big tech partner turns down a collab
- Denied permission to stream a new game (I could totally see Toby Fox doing this)
- YouTube starts burying them in search results.

If this does happen, it may be the case that cover simply withdraws or scales down their EN operation. Who knows, maybe they will go the distance without something happening, but I think they're still "new" enough now that they haven't caught the attention of big pressure groups or politicians.

I actually expect the first thing that's going to come up is not "what is your political stance on X", but "why haven't you hired anyone who isn't asian or caucasian?"

Let me enjoy this, last hold out bastion of entertainment free from fad identity politics and loud retards with their rotbrain groupthink garbage.
It's only free insofar as you ignore the loud retards with their rotbrain groupthink garbage who are latching onto this last holdout bastion of entertainment.

But if we all did that, we would lose a valuable source of both laughs and cringe. And retards like myself wouldn't have things to doompost about.

I mean... there are translated clips of some of them talking about ya-be things. Not as explicit as shit, fuck, boobs, cum, titjobs, nipplefucking etc etc (idk what the Vshojo girls talk about most of the time, I gave up on Twitch when their adshit wouldn't stop bothering me everytime I load a new stream or when the player itself takes a crap and I have to refresh. Also, Twitch chat can get sooooooooo literally wanna blow my brains out with a 12gauge levels of sperg). But then again, they are Twitch viewers so reading might not be a thing they can do

They're a fucking Japanese Corpo. Do you think they care about diversity quota? Bets are they hired the current EN gen based on:
This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

But all in all, Cover is still a Japanese Corpo. We've seen they're fuck ups and their response has been very Japanese Corpo, given they are a tech startup that ended up as an idol-streamer company. They are going to give zero fucks for SJW and politics.
