To be fair, old diesel farm trucks are actually a scientific aberration. They function on orc logic. If it looks like a truck, it'll run. It has no doors. No hood. Covered in rust. The trunk is held on by bungie cables. It's being driven poorly in stick shift by a Mexican guy named Thomas who speaks English fluently but pretends not to to get out of work, and he's carrying 200 more pounds of fertilizer in the back than the truck was made for in it's prime. It'll run. It might get stuck. Put in in 4 wheel drive. It'll run. You're born into this world with 3 things for certain. Death. Taxes. And that car running. It shouldn't. But it does.

So what the fuck have they done that killed a brand new farm truck?
The problem with your assumption that this is a janky old farm truck to be kept running through judicious application of jb weld and sheer will power alone is that none of the Tranch Davidians are ranchers, farmers, or have any kind of mechanical aptitude. If it can't be fixed by watching a 15 minute youtube video, it ain't happening.

Well, if the engine itself is mechanically sound, it should run if there's nothing wrong about the tubing, the timing, electronics, and it's been well lubricated with the proper oil.
They aren't really scientific aberrations, it's just that the engines were monstrously oversized for their performance. It's the same with the obsolete Chevy Small Block and industrial engines found in tractors, semi trucks, buses, locomotives, etc. Keep the engine revs and thus the load on the mechanical parts low enough, keep it well lubricated, change the filters regularly, watch out for damaged electronics and tubing, and it's going to run well over a million miles with relatively light maintenance. Modern, downsized automotive engines outputting 150bhp per liter - or more, if you just slap three turbos on it - and have ridiculously complicated shit going on to the point they don't repair, just replace everything often don't survive a hundred thousand miles.

BMW engines which crack or melt their electronics because of the high heat they produce shouldn't be the norm.
i know the tranchers look like orcs but they don't have the reality bending will power of being fucking stupid
They sure do have a warped perception of reality though.

Finally, something that I can sperg about.

Been lurking for ages. Diesel vehicles and 30 y/o cars are my thing. That 7.3 is an okay engine, but the IDI that came before it was indestructible. 2 wheel drive seems like a horrible idea for a ranch vehicle. Diesel is pointless unless you need to tow very large trailers. Not like they have any other farms to visit. A much better choice for them would have been a toyota tundra or a nissan hardbody. Both are small trucks that will cost them much less in the long run. Even a small block American half-ton would be simpler.

I wonder what they did to mess up that GM. Newer diesel trucks have to reach full operating temperature occasionally or else the computer will throw it into "limp mode" until the soot is cooked out of the exhaust system. I almost want to reach out to them concerning "Penny" to see if I can dig up more info.

As they say on the Cummins forums, you have to pay big to play big. I guess it's easier when your benefactors will bend to your every whim.

Bonus: You can really abuse an IDI diesel https://youtu.be/WBOP-oKS560
You are not looking at it correctly. They need to buy based on GVWR of the passengers. Who cares if it tows or not.

When this thread was still part of Kevin's thread, the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch of Colorado reported that the sheriff came to the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch of Colorado because someone told the police the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch of Colorado was abusing their animals.

The tranchers claim the sheriff said "nothing to see here," and everyone clapped.

This supposedly went down when 9news was there doing a piece on the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch of Colorado but I don't think we ever got actual proof.

I find it hard to believe. Also fuck nulls feelings on Google SEO, and fuck the Tenacious Unicorn Ranch of Colorado. They happily provide mountains of photo evidence of their animals suffering and it makes my head spin that their followers love it.
They released the video of the cops showing up and shrugging about the call.

Think Kevin drew the anarchy alpaca? Looks like his lazy art style

Is the bathing and pissing in the drinking water a common thing? I'd guess not, but animals can be gross.
Can't speak about pissing, but animals will absolutely just stand themselves in whatever they're trying to drink. Seems to my ignorant opinion that they would appreciate a few more water basins though, watching the ones trying to bob their heads down to drink but being discouraged by the behavior from the others.

I'd assume many captive animals do this, as in nature they'd probably drink, bathe, and relieve themselves all in the same pond/stream. As long as the Tranchers change the water frequently, I don't see any problems with this. However, these are the Tranchers we're talking about, and I doubt they pay much attention to their alpacas' drinking water quality.
