If james charles was a 21 year old straight guy that went after 15-16 year old girls and claimed they lied about their age then he would be cancelled immediately. Not sure why he's given lenience here when he's done this so many times and hasn't learned from it.

James Charles: YouTube star admits messaging 16-year-old boys
Beauty YouTuber James Charles has admitted sending sexually explicit messages to two 16-year-old boys.
"I fully understand my actions and how they are wrong," the 21-year-old influencer said in a video posted to his YouTube channel on Thursday.
Allegations against Charles first emerged on social media earlier this year.
In February, the influencer - who has 25 million subscribers to his YouTube channel - was accused by one teenager of grooming, which Charles denied, saying he flirted with the person because he believed the boy to be 18.
Charles had denied previous accusations, but in Thursday's video, titled "Holding myself accountable", he admitted wrongdoing.
He says there were two incidents - one last year and one more recently - where he came to be aware that the person he was exchanging messages with was underage.
"These conversations should have never happened," Charles said in the 14-minute video. He admitted he could have searched for them on other social media platforms and found their real ages.
He also publicly apologised to the boys and said he would take time away from posting on social media to "educate" himself about these issues.
'I'm desperate'
The scandal is not the first time the beauty influencer has faced a controversy.
In 2019, he was accused of using "fame and money to try to manipulate someone's sexuality", which he denied.
When addressing why he has been "reckless" in past relationships, he said it's because he's "desperate".
In a video he made addressing the 2019 accusation, Charles made a promise to be more careful moving forward.

But as time progressed, he says in his most recent video, he began "ignoring red flags again".
He ended his video vowing to be more cautious in the future and stop treating his social media accounts as dating apps.
Accusations of YouTubers
Accusations - and admissions - of sexual misconduct by YouTubers have become more and more common.
In 2019, YouTube deleted singer Austin Jones's channel, after he admitted to exchanging sexually explicit images and videos with underage girls.
David Dobrik, one of YouTube's top earners in 2020, recently had his channel demonetised by YouTube following a rape allegation about a former associate.
Mr Dobrik has denied any wrongdoing.

I read comments defending James and majority of them unironically think that James was just an idiot and those incidents were merely coincidence. A couple weeks ago he posted a twitter "apology" shifting blame onto the minor by claiming the victim flirted with him and lied about his age. His fans then, surprisingly, blasted this kid on twitter and James even liked a few of their tweets. But now, suddenly James learned about power imbalances?

In the apology video he made a point that he seeks men 21+ however he commented prior on a podcast that he has the maturity of a 40 year old yet seeks the absolute youngest. Also on a different podcast admitting he filed out high school boys to see him LA. All the context makes it grosser.

Being a preteen darling who survived a very taxing clusterfuck of a cancellation gives you enough brownie points to survive any controversy that can be washed away with plausible deniability, no matter how many times you use the card.
Especially since the most vocal critics are regular drama-whores like H3H3, Trisha and Keem who can be labeled as "toxic" and have their input disregarded. And on a legal aspect, yeah, youtube predators rarely get reprimanded.
For a somewhat similar example, albeit in a smaller scale, you have Onision. Look at how long it took for him to not have any defenders left, and that was with him running a series where he rated the scantily-clad bodies of his underaged fans.

I believe Tati's main points were focused on how James was flirting and trying to coerce STRAIGHT guys - did she say anything about them being minors? At the time, most people were speculating that James had sexually assaulted someone close to him that was his age (at least, this was the narrative Jeffree was trying to push).
If Tati had been saying James was trying to turn straight underage boys it would've been a lot more controversial than her original video. Of course, predatory behaviour is predatory behaviour no matter what way you look at it. Wasn't she friends with James when he was 17-20 (or 19)? If she had known he was talking to minors at the height of their friendship she probably wouldn't think anything of it, as it's not that unusual for someone who's in their late teens to be talking to highschoolers (as long as they're seniors and not like.. freshmen. that's a little sus).
