It's never been stated what happened but it sound like they're either separated or divorced. They were living in Mississippi a few years ago, with her son from another relationship. And then at some point Jim moved to Philadelphia near Conrad and Justin. And he hasn't mentioned her since the move so it sounds like he was just in it for the green card and once he was a US citizen, he got out of there.
