Business Edible Insects Market Predicted to Show Substantial Growth in Future

The global edible insects market is projected to surpass US$ 850 million by the end of 2027, in terms of revenue, growing at CAGR of 6.7% during the forecast period (2020 to 2027).

Edible insects are consumed across various regions as they are rich in various nutrients such as amino acids and essential minerals. Wasps, ants, bees, beetles, scale insects, cockroaches, flies, termites, crickets, and grasshoppers are some edible insects. They are also used across the aquaculture and poultry industries.

The advantage such as low cost of investment as compared to other conventional livestock such as pork, beef, and chicken is expected to augment the market growth of edible insects. Rising demand for protein-rich food products such as protein bars and snacks due to rising health consciousness among consumers is also expected to accelerate the market growth of edible insects over the forecast period.

Increasing demand for mixed insect’s packs that entails various edible insects is expected to augment the market growth of the edible insects. The mixed insect's packs usually contain mealworms, crickets, and cockroaches that are packed in deli cups and this is considered under ready-to-eat food products. Thus, the rising demand for mixed insect packs will favor market growth.

Growing cases of livestock disease are creating demand for edible insects which is further expected to fuel the market growth over the forecast period. The growing demand for cricket flour which is gluten-free which can be used for producing various food products is further expected to propel the market growth over the forecast period.

You guys go on about pods and bugs then proceed to turn around and eat shrimp and lobster
Yeah, because crustaceans are not insects...... you know that, right?

I don't object to bugs being an available protein, that said, the people pushing the bugs are the kind of people who also want nobody to eat meat and they aren't exactly subtle about it,

Same way that the people pushing for electric cars are some of the most insufferable hipsters out there, and carmakers for some reason make the pure electric versions of their cars the most hideous-styled of the entire product lineup..... it's a classic case of how a good idea can (and is) sunk due to marketing.... and the undeniable taint of aggressive political motivations riding in the wake of all the supposed virtues of the "new normal" they want to promote..

In much the same way that "common sense" gun control pushed by lefties is just a way to get the ball rolling on total bans on any and all firearm ownership, pushing "eat bugs! " is just the first step towards the politicization and regulation of the ability of citizens to shop for whatever groceries they want through new taxes and other penalties introduced to "save the Earth' that the elite will not have to follow or will just buy their way out of.

I know well-intended-socialism when I see it, or rather, when I see it's grubby foot coming through the door and telling me I have to let it in if I don't have a "better alternative" ....

I've already allowed politics to ruin my sports, TV shows, video games and comics, I will NOT let them take my dinner table without a fight.

So how long until major food corporations start sneaking ground insects into processed food.
Ground insects already end up in processed food unintentionally and probably have as long as modern food processing has existed. It's not exactly a secret either.

They're still arthropods and fill a lot of the same niches as insects do. In fact isopods are commonly mistaken for insects despite being crustaceans because many are land dwelling and live with and amongst insects and other invertebrates.

Functionally the only real differences between crustaceans and insects are different numbers of legs on the basic body plan and the fact that a good chunk of crustaceans are marine dwelling while few insects are.

The difference is people choose to eat those. I don't think things will get far enough that your average person will gleefully down a cockroach, but I have no doubts the elites will be ignorant enough to try to force it.

Someone actually died once from an allergic reaction while trying to eat a hissing cockroach as part of a contest. The person had a shellfish allergy and didn't realize if you are allergic to shellfish you're probably allergic to insects as well.

Roaches are also fantastic feeders for pets, and dubia roaches especially will probably overtake crickets eventually as the no.1 feeder insect.
Literally the only bugs I've ever seen anyone eat are salted crickets from a novelty store
They gouge the fuck out of that shit, it's be a lot cheaper to just roast and salt your own crickets. I'd trying doing it with mealworms if all my animals weren't constantly decimating my colony.

I want some bugs.
Gimme a yummy bug salad. Give me prepared ants so I can put em in cakes I bake for extra protein.
Slap a stag beetle into a deep fryer and I will not only eat it, but feel like I have conquered the beast.
Give me a pack of sugar coated and caramelised scorpions because that sounds badass.

Who the fuck is eating bugs?
About fifteen years ago I visited Thailand. I was in the northeastern region visiting a friend of a friend. With a bunch of others, mostly Thais, I went on a day hike. At some point, I observed one of the Thai men in the group reach into some low-hanging branches and pick up what I recall looked like a large beetle of some kind. He looked at the beetle for a moment and then bit off and ate the large rear section (thorax or something, I'm not a biologist) and then threw the rest of the beetle away. It's one of those memories that really sticks out in my mind.

I know that,
I meant as an intentional ingredient. Like a protein additive

The shilling for bugs is incredibly homosexual. 850 million? Globally? By 2027? The North Korean market for canned smegma is probably bigger than that, right now, but I don't see bugmen writing endless reams of articles about how North Korean canned smegma is the exciting new future.

Fuck bugs, how about we feed journalists to pigs and eat pork.

is this like a high tier meme lion king reference?

The idea of eating bugs in itself I don't really find too offensive. It's that this is being pushed by elites who have no intention of doing the bug diet themselves and is pushed on the lower classes of society "for the greater good". I owe nothing to these people and I'm sure as fuck not going to eat mealworms for dinner just so they can enjoy guilt free steaks. You want change? Start from the top and lead. Make all the politicians go on the mealworm diet first and then maybe the rest of the citizens will follow suit.
