Steel core is not steel tip, fyi. All that means is the case is steel, it's what typical Soviet/Russian surplus is made out of. Steel TIPPED however, is another story.

A lot of ranges ban it because it can ricochet and reselling steel is not as lucrative as reselling brass cases. It's also harder on backstops. Other than there, there is nothing about regular commie steel case surplus that is "armor piercing".
A lot of people do make the mistake you are talking about both the cases are steel and the jackets are copper/steel bimetal for Eastern new and surplus AK ammo. But, there is mild steel core. The M43 and the Chinese equivalent. I only really remember seeing M43 sold in cases and it's the real corrosive primer stuff. The Chinese version looks bronze plated and you usually found people selling by the stirpper clip claiming it was AP. There is of course true armor piercing in this case BZ - armor piercing incendiary, which is much rarer.

I totally understand that but didn't want to go into it because the ammo they were probably using more than likely came from Ukraine, if it wasn't just cheap ass Tula that was bought before the covid panics. While getting Soviet era AP here isn't hard, it's not exactly "trivial" either and I don't expect half assed shit for brains "body armor' manufacturers to know where to begin to look. That kind of conversation will usually spiral into how 7n6 isn't true armor piercing ammo why it's ban was total bullshit, etc.

I mean if we're going to get autistic, lets bust out the thousand piece puzzle.

I have about a quarter of a spam can of 7.62x54R steel core surplus. I can assure you that the case is not steel, just the core of the bullet.

Run a magnet over it and find out.

The reason why the Soviets used steel case in everything is because steel is the natural resource they have at hand, Russia has very few brass deposits. Even if that 54R was made by S&B, it's still going to be steel case, steel core corrosive milsurp ammo. Some WERE brass cased but not a lot.

Don't have it with me, unfortunately, so I'll just have to take your word for it.

sir, brass is not a natural material it is an alloy
You;re right and I am retarded. Probably getting mixed up with zinc. Either way the Russkies didnt do a lot with brass, ammo wise. The Bulgarians DID have brass cased 7.62x54R though, but all that stuff is going to be corrosive as shit. It's possible that's what @SIGSEGV has.

Russia has ample amounts of both zinc and copper, which are the constituent minerals of brass.

You know, I genuinely like learning about stuff but jesus I wish this thread would tone it down in the gun sperging
Honestly, I don't quite mind it except gun spergs? Some of us are feeling like we just wandered into a 101 class on the first day to find some asshole decided it'd be lulzy to swap its room with some class for the PhD students.

It's educational, the parts that make sense to those of us on the margins.

My bet is that the problem was manufacturing brass. They were kind of notorious for having shit supply chains; you just produced your quota and it making it onto the next point in the chain was Not Your Problem...and, often, not anybody else's problem, either...

That, or they have simply shit tons of the constituent minerals of most steel alloys. Russia's mineral wealth is immense.

Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with urban/suburban upper-middle-class-and-better idiots when it comes to thinking agriculture is simple?
They think that rural, working class, and/or conservative people are stupid, so figure that if they can do it, it must be easy.

Anyway, here are some ladies lunching: 68573729.png

Yeah I'm pretty sure that I have Bulgarian surplus, I bought the spam can from a local gun store about five years back so I can't remember for sure what the price label said. It's definitely corrosive, though.

That poor lamb is doomed I'm sad that they're not keeping the unhouse-trainable animal inside so at the very least they can suffer with it

I mean I know nothing about sheep but that doesn't look like a healthy one to me

I admittedly don't know a lot about farm animals outside of chickens, but that lamb looks really skinny to me. Not just "newborn baby animal" skinny either. *sigh*
