I feel like part of the equation in the US versus other places in the Americas was that slaves cost a lot of money and any slave baby that was born was money in the bank for the masters. And maybe part of the high price for slaves was that they weren't expected to be worked to death and/or succumb to tropical diseases within a few years of arrival, so there was more of an incentive to train them into a skilled workforce. You don't teach fine needlework, blacksmithing, or wagon-making to someone with a life expectancy of 25 or whatever it was in the South American sugar cane fields. Slaves were killed by their masters in the US, but you also have tards who buy a new car and wrap it around a tree in the first week. Being someone else's property is not an optimal situation.

Not only did the DOJ declare it a justified use of force, just last year the current County Prosecutor ran on the message that he would convict the cop who killed Micheal Brown, just for him to get into office, and say "uh oops turns out it really was justified and I can't charge him". The fact that people still use Micheal Brown as an example of police brutality and still repeat "hand's up don't shoot!" one of the most iconic BLM chants which is completely false is absolutely astonishing to me. Almost every single martyr of BLM deserved to be killed by police, and all we hear are lies on top of lies.

Once something like the cotton gin existed, slavery was pointless. You'd be better off having skilled workers who understood the machine, rather than slaves deliberately kept ignorant to avoid them revolting. And the very institution of slavery itself caused people, rightfully, to rise up and demand their rights, often by just killing their owners. This happened all the time. Slavery was not some wonderful institution that worked smoothly.

The earliest was the Stono Rebellion. That was in the original 13 colonies and was in fucking 1739.

And then look at Nat Turner.

Imagine it this way. Suppose someone enslaved you. And you had the slightest opportunity. What would you do to them? I can't imagine any limits on what I'd do to someone who did that to me.

Well, we've finally made it. Derek Chauvin has finally appeared in court for third degree murder in the Death of George Floyd. People have been talking about making a separate thread for the trial itself instead of keeping it contained in the thread dedicated to riots that might come from it, so here you go.

Anyway, the case most likely relies on if the knee was the thing that directly led to Floyd dying, contributed to it, or was a result of a bunch of drugs (namely Fentanyl) that can fuck you up real good.

Also, there's the part where George Floyd may be what you call a "career criminal" or at the very least he's known to swallow his drug stash to get out of a possession charge. Probably add that to the defense's case as well, along with anything else that could be argued as "Derek Chauvin kneeing George Floyd did not directly kill him, or even contributed to it".

Thanks for the rec. I was raised to believe that Sowell was a race traitor, so I've never read him.

I know that a lot of Northerners, particularly from certain Protestant traditions, viewed white Southerners as degenerate. The so-called Protestant work ethic was and is essentially a religious practice. Idle hands do the devil's work, and all that. Using slaves to do your manual labor for you was tantamount to running a whorehouse.

"Albion's Seed" doesn't go into slavery so much, but it does talk about the differences between the South and the North. The works of Sarah Josepha Hale are really hard to get through for modern audiences (so preachy!), but she was incredibly influential and she was very much of the mind that whites were corrupted by the institution of slavery.

This is kinda like imagining, as an intelligent and sober and disciplined person, what you would do if you became homeless. I bet you could think of a few ways where within a month you would probably work your way back into just being in poverty. But that's because you are not the type of mind who would ever be homeless, you're not a junkie dope who has likely betrayed everyone in their lives, like most homeless people. So we can think of what WE would do if we were slaves - like Quentin Tarantino writing Django Unchained - but in reality most slaves were illiterate retards who really didn't know much else and where would they go? I liked Jim Goad's book on the topic cause he reminds us that as bad as slavery was, much of America was not much better. You had slavery, or you could go work yourself to death in a coal mine being raped at the company store, you could go slave in an oil rig in the middle of nowhere, I guess you could get into the pelt trade and live like an animal where your only solace is alcoholism, be a whore in some place where a railroad goes through, there wasn't really much else going on at the time to incentivize it as far as I can tell. There's all sorts of stories about people turning the poor and jobless Irish against the Slaves who might even look down on the Irish for being less useful than them. And then you get into black slavers and all sorts of weird shit that hurt the whole narrative.
They had all sorts of social structures to make everyone okay with it, I remember one where they would let slaves have what was essentially a weekend off in the city and they would all come back because the city was somehow dirtier and more violent than where they were. There's all sorts of shades of grey to it I guess, but when people ask "why didn't all the slaves revolt?" the answer is somewhere in there.
