I don't see the issue with this ending, it's pretty much the same as The End of Evangelion with Shinji starting Third Impact because he couldn't get laid.

I really do not think Isayama had any idea what he was doing after the time skip and was just making it up as he went along.

This caused the story to spiral out of control and pretty much fucked all character motivation six ways to Sunday.

Add in Isayama obviously not caring about the manga anymore into this......

This then led to the non-sensical ending we got where it seems like literally nothing mattered in the manga.

Also, Isayama said he wanted to hurt us readers. Making us realize we were rooting for a protagonist who was a Manic depressive, angry, sociopathic, Incel.

Who killed his own mother, mind fucked his father and commited genocide just to bang his adopted sister (which he fails to do) sure does that..... I guess? lol

Did you miss the part where he immediately recomposed himself and then explicitly decided to stay dead because what he did was unforgivable and it would sabotage the part of his plan where his friends are exalted as heroes of humanity?

Where's the part of his plan where he gets to Try for Baby with Mikasa? The part where his decapitated head gets buried at his favorite resting spot?

He admits that he likes Mikasa as a woman after who knows how long, right as he's committing to give all of that up along with his life in the hopes that his friends will live long lives as the saviors of humanity with all the clout that entails. He loses composure temporarily, and he looks like a total lamer in the process because he lost to his best friend's taunts.

Somehow, this means that his entire motivation for committing genocide was so that he could have sex with Mikasa... after staying dead.

If you've been reading anything I've posted since last night, you'd have realized that I haven't been shy in criticizing what I didn't like or couldn't make sense of in the ending. I also understand that what does make sense, makes sense, and I understand that even making sense doesn't automatically render something "well done", which is part of why I've been hesitant in saying whether I liked the ending (though repeat reads bring on more melancholy for some reason). Conversely, I can still like something that doesn't make sense (I'm very fond of A:TLA even though logic re: dealing with the Fire Lord breaks down at around the Day of Black Sun onward).

"Eren committed genocide because of virgin rage" is a stupid-but-funny joke. As an honest-to-God argument, it makes as much sense as "WHOOOOA EVANGELION IS SO TRIPPY AND DOESN'T MAKE SENSE" posed as an actual argument. In order to come to that conclusion you have to have actually given up any pretense of actual criticism to begin with.
