Found the reason Why reddit sucks so much these days.
not my post.
"Because reddit had no policies in place to protect its userbase from abuse of power by mods. And they are RAMPANT with it.
I hate reddit. I just quit the site for good; never going back, ever. I recently had a run-in with mods in a subreddit (r/tarot) where I complained about moderation, and one of the mods (they used TheMightyStylus, an anonymous way for mods to moderate—reddit should not allow this; even the username sounds like a power-hungry dweeb) responded with threats, shadow-banning, and false accusations. Of note, s/he even used the pronoun “We” as if I, a lone and powerless user, needed to be ganged up on by a group of mods. They were like talking to a child having a meltdown. They even said “If you don’t stop ‘stirring up shit,’ you’ll be permanently banned.” I only ever made one post criticizing moderation, wasn’t even persistent about it and multiple times even emphasized that I no longer wanted contact with them, and I was threatened like that. Couldn’t care less about a permanent ban, because why in the world would I even want to stick around after the gross display of corruption and lack of leadership? “Stirring up shit” for having a difference in opinion?
I couldn’t believe that there were people, with power, who were throwing tantrums and pointing fingers at people having a different opinion from their own.
Vented throughout the site, like r/rant where I didn’t explicitly mention any usernames, etc., and got my posts removed— why? Apparently some mods mod multiple subreddits, up to 100s, spending an unseemly amount of time on Reddit, and if they see your post on a different subreddit that they moderate, they’ll ban you there too.
Many, many subreddits also seem to have some unwritten rule that it’s “breaking site rules” to criticize moderation. For example, r/rant automatically omits any posts with the word “moderation,” “moderator,” or “mod.” Mods will remove posts and tart it up with something irrelevant, like “discrimination on basis of sexual orientation” when that’s blatantly false; they do it because they have no real justification for removing a legit post that they don’t like, such as a lone user’s critique on moderation. Can you believe that? It is disgusting how easy it is to censor out people’s voices and legit differences in opinions on reddit (opinions that are not discriminating on the basis of race, sexual orientation, etc., harassing or abusive), with no repercussions to those who abuse that power. How can anyone have a real discussion on reddit when there are mods running rampant banning people or censoring posts left and right just because they don’t like a difference in opinion that doesn’t break site rules. Honestly it makes sense why r/redpill took the ugly turn that it did. Such a toxic environment that only allows one particular opinion only facilitates group think, leading to extreme behaviors like killing innocent girls.
So I AM holding the moderators, and the way Reddit overall allows moderation to abuse its power, in large part RESPONSIBLE for the sick, disturbing and toxic content that can too easily form on the site.
Their lack of standards is frustrating. I am honestly really disgusted by the way moderation is handled on reddit; it literally has no way really in being dealt with fairly due to little to no guidelines punishing mods for abuse of power, and there were many people at minimum scorned, at maximum killed due to group think and extremism, by that site by poor moderation in the past, today, and to come.
I will never go back there; I will never support such a toxic place and I hope Reddit dies a painful death."
