This goes one of two ways. Either the body footage comes out and it is crystal, perfectly clear that he was going for a weapon and it was a totally justified shooting, which should at least dampen the riots, or we're in for another long summer.

I'm not sure if this is a local, regional, or national thing. but the evening news recently featured a defense attorney who -- due to COVID -- is conducting outdoor pop-up sessions teaching people that one of the best ways to avoid issues with the police is to avoid the little things that draw their attention and suspicion. He showed those that attended how easy it is to check and replace a car's lights so that burned out bulbs don't result in a pulling over and citation. Ironically enough (and related to your post), he also mentioned how stuff such as air fresheners dangling from the rear-view mirror can lead to a traffic stop due to "obstructed vision" and give the police enough of a reason to run the driver and any passengers through their onboard computer to see what else they might be able to dig up such as warrants.
I'm sure some people would claim that such a session is unnecessary and only serves to illustrate how racist the police really are, but it also reinforces the point that the best way to avoid unncessary attention to one's self is to avoid doing the things that draw that attention even if acivists and others bounce and squeak about how unreasonable it is to expect people to be accountable/responsible for their actions and decision-making.
Even when the police do their job without having to use force (lethal or not), there are still protestors ready to use those encounters to further their cause or personal agenda.
A nearby city's police department is coming under scrutiny because the majority of their traffic stops involve black people even though black people make up less than 10% of the population. The police chief for this city is quick to point out that his city is directly adjacent to another whose population is majority black and it's those residents driving into or through his city that make up the bulk of those traffic stops. Nevertheless, the activists are still trying to spin the city's police and racist/prejudiced against black people even though the evidence cited so far seems largely anecdotal and circumstantial at best.
