I can only speak for what i've heard, but today the process is very streamlined and unless you make it big in the amateur scene you probably will not get an offer from a publisher.

Most of the time, the guy goes to a casting where he will get a physical examination (He has no butterface, decently fit and good size) and if he passes he will get called to make a scene as a test ride.

Also, another thing i've read a lot of times is that most male porn actors end up being gay for pay because male actors usually don't get paid as well as females and doing gay pays quite well. Same with doing trannies.

Truth be told. Some men in the industry can last decades. Look at Randy Spears/Evan Stone and their ilk. Jesus look at Ron Jeremy. He went from the male lead to the gimmick actor but he still got work. If you keep in reasonable shape you could get a 30-40 year career out of porn. Best example is Rocco Siffredi.

Most women got at least 1 year or 2 in the business tops before they disappear altogether.
