If my daughter* dressed like that i would truly fail as a father
*don't have a daughter

Can you elaborate? I mean, sure, the fandom attracts lots of nasty people, but at the end of the day it's just old-times inspired clothing. Some of it can look really cute without being over-the-top costume-y. I've seen people incorporate it into daily wear successfully.

If there's anything I've learned from delving into parts of any anime-related community, it's that the fans are fucking insane, and the communities that focus on things even slightly related to animu stuffs (like lolita) get more and more insane depending on how weeb you can get with it.

I dunno why, but there's just something about pentagonal faces, large eyes, and moe moe kawaii desu that makes people turn the "rationality" part of their brain off. I wanna say the Lolita thing is surprising but, honestly, it's really not. This culture is full of weirdos.

... That being said, paranoia, backstabbing, and delusional soapboxing is usually a good formula for a lolcow. Wonder if we'll get any Queen of Lolita lulz.

Also hilariously, in SP #182, there's a Lolita using the same slang that us Kiwis do.

Do we have a Lolita among us?
There are a few people here who are lolitas, including me  I've been in the community for awhile so I could probably elaborate if anyone has any questions (are you not a lolita jashinist, just a fan? or just in for the drama ) behind-the-bows occasionally gets similar language to us because all the salty anons from /cgl/ go there and they're subject to 4chan culture like kiwis are.

I can explain in a few words (one word, really) why anime makes people act like this, but I'm sure you know the answer. Here's a hint: It's a six letter word.

Oh awesome! Do you disagree with any of my wording in the first post? I'm not a lolita, I'm in it for the drama and saw a few of my friends get fully into the fandom so I saw their dive in sanity. There's really something funny about adult women wearing bows and bonnets and frilly dresses crowding around a laptop to see who's talking shit.

It can only be nerdy girls.
One of my favorite things about nerd hobbies is witnessing the reaction of the fat histrionic alpha nerd girl of the group when an unexpected hotter girl shows up. So much salt crops die for miles.

Personally, I like lolita in the "They look cute and being a Little Miss Badass is extremely fun to do in video games." (If I could play Rachel in BlazBlue worth a fuck though mrgrgr)

Lolita looks really cute irl, but honestly I associate it so much with how often it appears in anime that it just kinda blends into all of the anime cosplay for me, making it kinda hard for me to appreciate it in its entirety since I have a very cursory interest in cosplay and whatnot.

It sounds like something that would be interesting to look into, but only because their fans are, again, autistic as fuck.

This is slightly outdated info. Maybe it used to be the case (I'm not really sure) but nowadays handmade is looked very highly upon. It just has to be well made and a lot of it isn't. Anyone who says handmade is ita even if it looks just like glorious burando is either a vendetta or trolling. Indie brands are very popular right now.
My views on it are outdated as it was when it was just starting to gain traction and years before it was featured in western magazines. (I'm old. Kill me!) Even so, the Gothic Lolita Bibles and mooks even had patterns to make your own clothing but that was mostly ignored in favour of brand made items for bragging rights. I'm glad that indie stuff has gotten popular to catch up with the demand for variety and sizing. :heart-full:

What's happening to the Muslim loli's is exactly what happened to the black loli's. Back on the EGL LJ's there would be people trying to offset the hate by making cute chibi's of loli's of all races and sizes in hopes of bringing the community together, but it only went so far. The elitism still remains in pockets, just as it does in the ABJD community. They may not say it to your face, but they'll definitely lash out anonymously.

The japanese are the most kawaii racists in the world. It's only natural that american egl's would want to emulate this

If its only for something like cosplay its fine but if you take it too seriously like those people, then you have problems.

I've considered making a topic like this here before, but I didn't mostly because so much of the drama relies on teminology and stuff I think non-lolitas might not understand so well, and what's funny to me wouldn't be so funny to other people. But now that it's here I'll try to contribute :)

I think a lot of the perception of lolitas being salty is overblown. Like, for example the muslim lolita thing. Probably 95% of lolitas support muslim lolitas or don't care because there are a ton of SJWs in lolita fashion as well as people think it looks nice or simply don't care. My facebook has been flooded with articles about muslim lolitas the past two weeks. But then you get one salty /pol/-chan (they are there) and give her an anonymous platform and suddenly there are 4 secrets about muslim lolitas and it looks like lolitas hate muslims. Also a few months ago some /pol/-chan flooded BtB for a couple of weeks with I HATE BLACK PEOPLE, SO UNKAWAII secrets and of course everyone lost their shit. Sooo many secrets are trolls. I've submitted troll secrets myself lol, nothing attacking a group or anyone in particular just dumb shit to rile people up. (before anyone gets the idea to cool guy you kind of have to know something about the community to do this successfully, there are fail trolls every week so just stop)
A lot of salt comes from newbies and people who don't even participate in communities. I've been part of a few IRL communities and they are all pretty awesome but every once in awhile you get some girl who doesn't feel like she gets enough attention so she flounces with "waaah, lolitas are mean elitists!!" it attracts a lot of tumblr snowflakes and like I mentioned before girls with huge princess complexes. These girls cause a shit ton of drama.
But of course there are hardcore veteran lolitas who cause salt and drama as well (like me :ween:)
The secrets communities fuel a lot of the fire. It's actually kind of a coincidence why they even exist when they don't for other fashions. Lolita secrets came about in the era of postsecret, when every fandom had it's own secrets comm (fandom secrets, sailor moon secrets) and it just kind of stuck around. It was originally meant for unpopular opinions and more banal stuff but quickly became a haven of vendettas, shitposting and trolling. Add on to that the fact that moot just happened to like lolita fashion enough to give us a board along with cosplayers so there's another anonymous platform for all your sodium needs.
Overall I really enjoy being part of the community. I've made some great friends in it who aren't drama whores, and don't really get involved in toxic/personal drama. Ofcourse I enjoy watching it though  it's one of my main entertainments outside of kiwi farms
