I actually once saw a tutorial on how to color dark skin, that was not only written in an informative, neutral way but used actual photo references and iirc explained on how to pick the colors.
Maybe I can find again it but my hopes aren't very high.

Your comment about black and white actually reminded me of a controversy I read about on a German news site. In the article people were calling cameras and photo equipment inherently racist because they don't pick up dark-skined people as good as white people in certain light-conditions. It was ridiculous.

To be fair, there are Muslim girls in less restrictive families who indulge in punk aesthetics. I knew a girl who would tell me about how she'd dye her hair crazy colors and wear a hijab over it, much in the same way someone would wear brightly patterned socks underneath boots.

The braid hijab definitely proves there's a lack of understanding as to how hijabs work, since the fabric will definitely not braid that way. The artist likely got it from Malaysian cosplayers like the one below, but doesn't understand how those cosplays work.

It's not exactly a hard thing to notice, just look at all of the tumblrites who are into MHA - they complain about people making porn of the female characters, and then proceed to make and like porn of the male characters.
