I once jumped between my middle school roof to the gym roof, about an 8 foot gap, 20 ft above concrete when I was 13 because I wanted to impress my new friends and the cute girl who was there. I made it fine. But what if I tripped or slipped or made any slight mistake?

This stupid kid was trying to impress his gang buddies, or a girl. He happened to do it in a retarded way that cost him his life. His parents should pay the price, should pay for this cops therapy, or his legal bills. It was their fucking fault that their stupid kid died in an alley.

I would dispute that in real time, the kid basically threw the gun away less than 5 seconds before he was shot. There's no way to reasonably know during a chase that the perp has ditched his weapon. The kid stopped and turned around. I think it's reasonable to assume the kid would fire some shots.
