I think it's a culture shock (for a given value of "culture") to the religious boomers. I'd assume the extent of their social media presence is uploading Jesus videos to their congregation, where that congregation would be generally benign and friendly.

Then you get blitzed by slimy fucks who threaten you with sexual assault allegations, and to most normal people that's shocking, and the natural human reaction is to apologize, duck down, and wait for it to go away.
