I used to think that if left alone, Jaron would probably have grown up to be a gay man but now I'm not sure he would even had been gay. He doesn't exhibit the mannerisms or interests that normally set off my gaydar. I know Sander has gotten a lot of criticism here (and he can be annoying), but I think Jazz would be in a much worse depressive place without him. It seems like Sander is trying to keep Jazz preoccupied and somewhat active and even optimistic.

Sander seems to get a lot of attention by being a relatively cute guy who is kind to the disabled and deformed. Of course I don't know what his intentions are or who's really driving his actions, but I think he knows Jazz is a messed-up, troubled person who needs emotional support. Sander gets extra validation and kudos for being a good brother and LGBTQ ally. It's win-win for him.

However, he has talked about not sharing interests with other boys, namely his soccer teammates (all Jazz wanted to sperg about was sparkles and mermaids).

Then there was his bizarre past life regression where he claimed he was a gay man disowned by his family. Seems a weird fantasy for a trans person to have; wouldn’t it make more sense, if there is as Jazz has been raised to believe an essence of transness, that Jazz would’ve been female in a past life? Odd choice on his part.

I agree that we can never know for sure what he would have turned out to be but it just seems like a lot of his behavior is how he thinks a girl should behave. So much of his actions seem performative instead of natural.

It cant be easy to see your little brother suffering like that. Jazz might as well have a chronic illness with the daily pills and regular surgeries he has. I can't help but wonder, though, if when Sander looks at Jazz, a part of him whispers, it could have been me.

Sander helping Jazz is good, whether he does it on his own or because Jeanette wants him to. He seems to be the optimistic type. We all have met someone like this at least once. I don't think it's necessarily wrong, to be honest and maybe Jazz needs all the help he can get.

I mean, all jokes aside, I think Sander loves Jazz, there is no doubt about it. Maybe all that cheerfulness is just a facade he puts on rather than accept they fucked up Jazz's life, even if he doesn't consciously admit it.

Wow, good catch! I bought this book 2 weeks ago as I am considering starting a DBT program in May. DBT is amazing for PTSD, eating disorders, OCD, depression, anxiety, it pretty much helps everything and has a high success rate. Therapy is great but Jeanette and Greg should have insisted he get it before he medically transitioned. At this point I am worried that going to therapy will get him in touch with his true self and make him realize just how brainwashed he is. Once he understands that the drugs and surgery were unnecessary he is going to break. Staying in his bubble is the only thing keeping him alive.

There's something you misunderstand. Greg is a total cuck, and Jeanette is the ultimate narcissist who doesn't actually give a genuine shit about Jazz.
And you're naive like I used to be, but as others pointed out, facing what's been done to him, all of it, would probably be too much to reconcile with even over the course of years to the point I wouldn't be surprised if he just plain and up denies it mentally. Look at David Reimer and what happened after he came to face what had been done to him, it's not a pretty or optimistic picture and the best any of his brothers or sister can hope for once their sniveling rat of a father and horrid pig of a mother die is that Jazz doesn't do what Reimer did and end up killing himself. (Also try not to powerlevel too much)

Good catch! Unfortunately, I don't think any amount of therapy is going to help him. Especially with a mom like Jeanette she will sabotage (has sabotaged) any real help he can get.

It's also interesting because people with BPD are considered a high suicide and self harm risk.
