lets be real, these "protestors" are white trash or bourgeoisie wanna-be revolutionaries. Cars aren't expensive and neither are hotel rooms right now.
you dont wanna take your own car to get to a planned riot lol
first because getting your license plate caught on camera is an easy way to get tracked down after the fact
second because theres a chance that when cars start getting smashed and burned, yours will be among them

Would a long deliberation favor the prosecution or defense?
Probably the defense. If anyone thinks he's innocent, there's a greater chance that they can make a case for reasonable doubt. They could still be convinced he's guilty, especially if it's a matter of manslaughter, but if there's disagreement, it makes reasonable doubt an easier goal for everyone to reach.

@AnOminous please lawsplain to us the Blakely waiver shit Chauvin just did
Nool pretty much answered this 11 pages ago, but the judge is totally in charge of matters regarding sentencing, when you have a right to have it decided by the jury. But hey, I'm not a mind-reader, but I think he's concerned that the jury will make hysterical, emotion and fear-based decisions, and those will then be unappealable, because a jury is basically a black box and you're stuck with their result.

And I guess he's figuring a jury dumb enough to convict will also go full retard on the sentencing.

When a judge makes a decision deviating from sentencing guidelines, he actually has to justify it in a written decision with factual findings and legal reasoning explaining why he did that, and it is a lot easier to appeal that.

So he's both trying to avoid hysteria-based jury idiocy up front, and guarantee appealability of the reasoning for the sentence itself. It doesn't mean he's convinced the jury is going to convict, but I'd think he definitely thinks it's in the cards, but even if that happens, he's hoping even a bad sentencing decision by the judge can be appealed.

For those who missed it, here's Judge Cahill professionally calling Maxine Waters a fucking moron, and basically accusing her of jeopardizing the entire trial.

Judge Cahill is as fucking based as it gets, I wouldn't even be mad if Chauvin was convicted of manslaughter.

The one thing I found questionable is his denial of a venue change earlier on in the trial, he's done his best, though.

It favors the defense, a long deliberation implies disagreement amongst the jurors which could result in a hung jury and subsequently a mistrial.

If they came out with a verdict after only an hour of deliberation, it would mean they had their minds made up already.

If there was a venue change what would be the odds that the judge would be a libfag? The judge currently knows himself to not be a libfag, therefore he was the best choice. I also don't believe there's anywhere in the country where the jury pool wouldn't be tainted by all the George Groid propaganda.

i guess their reasoning was that the chance to run into a libshit activist judge is higher than the chance to run into 12 libshit activist jurors all at once
And one publicly identified judge is probably easier to intimidate by the mob (like the severed pig's head for that one police witness).

Just to think that this bitch is a congressperson from the great state of Commifornia. This bitch can ram through laws just like she was trying to fuck over Chauvin.

This bitch can evidently also go to other people's states and demand their homes and businesses be burned to the ground and their people beaten to death in the streets without repercussion.
