Part-time lurker coming out of the woodworks here so I might be doubling up a question. However, with the spawn of the gunt coming ever closer to birth will Ethan be named as the dad on the certificate? Or will he try to contest it so he can be the truest of dead-beat dads and avoid child support? I'm not sure how it works over there.

Pretty sure he would have to sign a paternity acknowledgment to even be added to the birth certificate. Other wise she can leave him off and the baby takes the mother’s surname.

Faith doesn't need to sue. Parental responsibility/child support is something that's almost impossible to weasel out of. The process of establishing parentage in California is available here https://www.courts.ca.gov/1201.htm, but the relevant part is:

Your local child support agency can bring an action to establish the parentage of your child. As part of this action, they will ask for a child support order. This service is free.

If Ralph decides he wants to be a total deadbeat then collecting may be a bit of a headache, but for the most part all Faith needs to do is put in the request and the state will take care of the rest.

He wont be able to [avoid child support] (if it really is his kid) the California Department of Child and Family Services is pretty fucking hardcore. He will be paying unless there is some sort of mutual agreement where Ralph gives up all parental rights.
