If he were sincere about not needing the attention and truly pivoting his channels to hobby/minor income, he'd abandon anything that had ever been to do with the MM persona (not merely rebrand) and start a new channel where he does True Crime or whatever he claims to be passionate about. Maybe give himself a new name (Greasy George, Humble Henry, Passive Peter/whatever) and run his voice through a little modulation so he doesn't totally sound like himself.
Instead, he's still putting himself out there and pretending to want people to unsub.

Yeah. Those things were not funny because of something he did. They were funny for what they exposed about him. Especially the audio leaks. Those exposed him for who he really is: a two-faced asshole who will pretend to be your friend while shit-talking you behind your back. Being a douchebag might work as a YouTube channel, but its hard to develop when you are just shit-talking people for no reason.
It especially won't work when you're a broke, diabetic cuck who only stays with his cheating girlfriend so he can avoid getting a real job.
Poley got more funny as it went on simply because of how he torpedoed his career over it. Him dancing on Ralph's grave was funny at first, but that's more so just because of how badly Ralph fucked up. The fact that he immediately tried to use it revive his career also ruined its entertainment value.
Matt doesn't have the capabilities to be entertaining. Or at least intentionally. He's only funny as a cow: watching his fuck ups unfold as he desperately tried to be an e-celeb.

Mundane Matt can spend all of his time effectively flagging videos for no reason at all, yet can’t be bothered to create engaging content for his YT page, or learn how to be a left-wing grifter right.

GG was never copted by the right-wing. It did however help push a fair amount of young liberals and centrist types to be more critical of the media and what you were hearing in college. It opened a ton of peoples eyes to how insanely manipulative the media had gotten and people made the logical jump from "OH MY GOD THERE IS CORRUPTION IN GAMING JOURNALISM" to realizing that it's the entire news media that's corrupt. It was a stepping stone. There was no evil Nazi boogieman behind the scenes recruiting people into their white power van. People just put two and two together about what they were reading and consuming in news and entertainment.
